Took this from a thread I made last week about taking off the rear bumper. I hope it helps.

Yikes. This is precisely the reason why I have upgraded to a plate steel one. I backed into a jagged trunk while wheeling in Sedona, AZ and left with only light scratches to the bumper.

How much rust did you remove from the other truck? :) That should almost buff out.

I think the OP is well past the "paint-less" stage. :)

An aftermarket chrome replacement bumper is about $275, so it's probably not worth a body shop's time to beat the dent out of your existing bumper.

If you can live with the chrome, then it's a straight bolt-on procedure. Painting it to match the truck will of course cost more.

You could always look for a used chrome bumper and plasti dip it. Really no prepping to do.

This guy has it right. OP wanted to black out his bumper anyways, so he could probably get an aftermarket replacement bumper for a base model Tacoma in black for cheaper.

Agreed, PDR isn't an option with that thickness of steel, and the crease wouldn't come out anyway.

To add to Ken's : You could also just find a decent used black bumper and paint it or have it done for probably cheaper than the chrome option.

The oem bumper is pretty weak... Bends pretty easy from minor incidents...

You can see the little rock I barely even hooked it on... The rock wsan't even solid...

    The final damage toll... haha

But really any plate bumper is better than stock. They are very soft as pictured above...
I upgraded before the stock one got damaged so I could sell the stock bumper on craigslist.

    Where are you located?

Your absolute cheapest option will be to get an old bumper off of a TW member who's removed his bumper in order to put on an aftermarket one.

If you're anywhere near San Jose CA, you can have mine (it's black) for just the cost of coming and picking it up. It's got a couple cosmetic dings, but nothing like you showed in the original photo.

Ahh nvm, have a stock one coming off in a couple weeks that I'd let go for a good price.

Buy a steel plated bumper now and don't let it hurt you in the long run with insurance. Because you'll just get a crappy stock bumper again that can do the same thing and your insurance goes higher. Steel plated bumper: 1. Tree stump: 0.

EDIT: Or just look for one on here for cheap. Haha :D

What happened to your towing electrical harness? Was it broken off/salvageable?
