Guys, I hope this is the right place to post my question. My 2013 only has 500 miles on it. After sitting for a couple days my wife went to crank it up and she said a cloud of black smoke came out upon start up. What the heck could this be? Thanks for the help.

Did she pump the gas pedal before turning on the ignition?

She says she didn't pump the gas before. It sat for 3 days. What if it was pumped before it sat?

pumping the gas does nothing, its fuel injected. mine did this too when it was brand new. i dont think its a big deal, just starting rich is all.

The worst case it would be a leaking injector. If it was mine and it did it more than just once I would have the dealer check the injectors for a leak.

Not to cause undue alarm, but a leaking injector "could" cause a hydro-lock in a cylinder resulting in a destroyed piston, rod etc... It does happen. A few skin cells inside of a fuel injector can cause it to stick open or closed or anywhere in between.

To qualify this response, I work for one of the worlds largest suppliers of gasoline and diesel injectors ( 19 years ).

Front lift, ride rite air bags, side steps, rear camera switch.
    Just for color clarification.
    Blue smoke=oil
    Black smoke=fuel
    White smoke=water or antifreeze

I would agree with the leaking or not completely sealed injector; releasing some fuel after truck was turned off.

    Fly by wire.
No accelerator pump, and the butterfly won't even open with the ignition off, or on and the engine not running.

    It's not 1975 anymore.

    Correct,

Pumping the accelerator, only will add extra fuel to a carburetor equipped engine; hence, accelerator pump.

Ok, I'll add this: Only if that carburetor had an accelerator pump. Some engines do not have a pump. Usually, this is the case in some small non-automotive engines.

Just rolled up 200092km and engine light on since about 170,000km. Code says CAT gone. Toyota said replace driver side CAT which I replaced along with upper and lower O2 sensors at that time. Engine light still goes on and off. On for about 5000km then off for about 1500km then on again. Noticed lately that on start up I'll get a puff of smoke. After about 20sec I go to the pipe and no smoke.. and the exhaust does not smell like fuel or oil?

WTH? Could the O2 on the passenger side cause a bad fuel start up? I'm praying to the Toyota gods that I don't have to haul the engine apart...

Also scratching my head should it be rings or anything oil related as I change with semi synthetic every 5000km...
