I found a Thread on TW for 255/85/R16. It was very informative, and answered a LOT of questions. I have searched all over and I can't find anything definitive on 285's though. I was hoping to get a thread started for ONE place to go to get answers. I have heard "no trimming" but that was 1st gen. I've heard 3" backspace, but that seems to only fit if you remove the front end? I cannot imput because I don't have them, so I won't regurgitate what I have READ. (See what I did there)

Mainly I would like to see 2nd gens, but 1st gens need love, too.
What size of wheel are you running? What is the backspace? Wheel spacers? Lift? Control arms? And most importantly... How much Trimming was required? Hard wheeling? Mall Crawler?

    Pics would be great.

Shoot me if this is pointless.

There are already a ton of 285 threads with alot of pictures and list of specs. Although they aren't as organized as the 255 thread.

    I guess I'll add my .02 cents

    285/75/16 Goodyear duratracs
Stock trd OR rims with spidertrax spacers
Trimming on the fender flare was needed for turning also did more trimming, cut and beat the pinch weld and did the cmc. All wasn't needed for street driving but offroad I don't rub at all now.

I'm running king resis with 700lb springs and total chaos ucas

ok look dude, Here is what I have and that is all I can tell you. I have a OME 2 1/2 inch lift. Whith 885's lon stock coil overs and an add a leaf in back. I have loved it for many years now. I have 285 75 R16's on and the only triming I did when I got the tires was to the front inner fender. I am now moving up to Icon coil overs and All pro expo leaf's, mostlly because I am alszo about to oreder bumpers and a winch. If I were you just hold off till you got the money or have saved up enough for what you really want. Take it from me I bought the Cheap lift and now I am spending the money on the RIGHT lift. Back to the Comment 285's are good and I love them, once you put them on just trim what you need to. I used a sharp pocket knife at the tire shop to trim my fenders and inner fenderwells. Just go from full lock out right and left to see where you rub and start cutting. If youhave qestiopns PM me.

    First shot gets the kill

That was my point. Trying to organize it so maybe there won't be so many threads STARTED just to ask the same question.

Not wanting to cut and not having the money is not an issue. I am just tired of the posts EVERY where. Good info for lookers though.

Well I'm going to be going with 285/75/r16 on a 16x8 Steel wheel w/4" b.s. Was going to go 255/85 but I drive through WAY to much snow on top of greasy mud that can easily get 2 foot deep. I'm sure there will be quite a lot of trimming involved. I may put 255's on my stock wheels, for when I go cross country/mountain climbing. Best of both worlds I guess.

Traction - I first read your post on my phone. I couldn't see the pic and was gonna be all "yeah, but there is no way you wheel with that" Glad I looked at the pic first.

What size of wheel is that? 8"? That looks like a tight fit. I have 4" backspace. Even with the same width wheel, that .5" could make it stick out enough to hit flares,

Hard wheeling I contact flares. Only in the back though. And yes I believe they are 8s

285/75/16 BFG KM2's on FJ TT 16"x 7.5" 4.5" BS, Stock UCA's, good alignment, mall crawler.
Small flaps in the front of the front wheel well were removed. No Spacers, no CMC, no rubbing. (Although the truck doesn't see any real wheelin'. That's what the Jeep is for.)

Has anyone noticed that the 2012 on models seem to fit bigger tires easier? seems to be happening.
