If he drives his truck like me than I can see where he's coming from. My truck has gone far past the point of shining it up. This doesn't mean I have any less pride of ownership.
It's the small things. Scratches and dents on my truck are like a story.

As soon as you start treating these pieces they start to need it more and more. Basically the plastic will get a milky look to it. I have noticed it more with tire shine than with specific plastic products like meguires(oops...MOTHERS) back to black.

If you want to do it use back to black the bottle is small and it still lasts a long time

I also like Mother's Back to Black. It lasts for weeks, doesn't leave an irritating glossy residue like Armor All, and a $6.00 bottle will last a long time even if you're an obsessive truck cleaner.

I'm stumped. A lot to choose from. Anyone got any pics of plastic surfaces that have been treated for say, 6 or more month's w/o another application? And, does the stuff your using seem to build up over time? Might sound like a dumb questions but Bobby's post is what concerns me the most. I don't really want to begin using a product that looks good initially but turns out to be more work latter.

I'm probably wishing for a product that hasn't been developed yet, and probably never will be. It would put too many companies out of business.

Thanks for the info Jim! I like the way it left this engine looking. A brand new appearance and not to shiny. My guess is the product John mentioned; wolfgang, might be similar. Both have my attention because of the UV protectant.

As for the vagina gang, let me guess; your in your teens or early twenty's. Your home alone, don't have a job, mommy/daddy buys you everything you want, your dad isn't around to bend you over his knees or your mommies balls hang down lower than his. Am I close [IMG]

I use Turtle wax also but I use the express shine spray. It is a little shiny but not bad. I use it on my mud flaps, black caps on rear bumper, black cap on the tail gate and on the bed caps and also that black trim piece rite under the front wind shield. Used it for year on my 99 Tacoma and it had a black plastic front bumper and after 10 years it still looked like new.

Another trick reserved for the plastic in your engine bay, household Pledge. Decent shine and repels dust/dirt. Well, in a non off-road vehicle anyway.

A rag used to apply polish dampen it with Amorall or the likes the mix works wonders keeps the plastic shiny for months.

    this!

heat is used in industry all the time. A solvent will also work but I would stick with the heat. For example in my cabinet shop the PVC edge of a door is scraped round, giving it a dull color. As it goes through the machine it hits a heating section to bring back its color. Good for life.

All of these sound good. Tacoma guys really caught my attention; at 10 years still looked new. Chris's suggestion; right up there with all of them. The heat gun; not rite now but maybe in a few years. Interesting idea! However, I think I'd be inclined to remove everything and get a little more aggressive with the heat.

    Thanks guys!

I've used mother's back to black on my tacoma and both of my previous vehicles and won't use anything else. Tire shine is no good on the plastics, gets overly shiny and wears off quickly. The back to black is good though. I use it probably once a month.

What I like about the heat gun idea is that if I ever decide to paint or 'Derp my front bumper cover, I won't have to worry about stripping a shitload of silicone or petroleum.

That's a concern; build-up. Is that a problem with any of the products your using? Do some leave less than others. Any scaling? Maybe I'll surf the web when I get time. Hopefully folks have already done long term/time tests on these products.

And, has anyone here used the heat gun? If so, how long does it last before you have to do it again? And, is there anything a guy can use as a heat shield on paint and other surfaces so a guy can get a little more aggressive with it?
