    enough to go over stuff
I took them off. It lookes better with them off, they wont flap in the wind, and they wont get ripped off when off roading and take the wheel well with them.

They're there for a reason, to keep rocks and sand from chewing up this shitty water based paint every manufacturer has to use now.

I've never scraped my rear ones on anything, not sure how you did that. Front ones I trimmed about 1.5-2" off of and they've been fine ever since.

To the guys that have trimmed their flaps. Do they still do a decent job of protecting the paint, or do you get a ton more chips?

I keep thinking I want to trim the front before I rip one off and really screw up something, but I like my paint also.

    Thanks

Trimming an inch or 2 isn't really going to make any difference. Stuff usually just hits my step tubes anyway, haven't noticed anything hitting my paint.

Nice wide flexible mudflaps. Custom fitted to the Tacoma 2nd Gen. All custom hardware included for $120 shipped. All you need is an offset screwdriver to install them, tires on. Spacers are included in the hardware kit to fill the gaps to replace those ridiculous OEM "flaps".

They use the three existing OEM hex screws to mount them, the mounting points are as solid as hell and taxes. I've had them on for many a mile over rocks in forward and reverse offroad.

They're not pretty, but they're effective. You don't sound like a pretty boy, so these are the flaps for you.

I see a lot of suggestions to remove them, do any of you live in the snow belt? I can't see taking them off would be an option... doesn't the snow and ice absolutely cover your vehicle? Rock chips and dings are one thing (I don't want those either) but I can see having 500lbs of snow and ice caked all over the truck after a ride to work. Maybe I am wrong.

I see a fair amount of snow, between home and my cabin north of me above the snow belt. I have a lot cut off my flaps, and for a while didn't have the fronts on. I never had a major build up of snow and ice, but I definitely get more dirt and muck on the sides.

I drive mostly on paved roads, and only gravel/dirt roads near my cabin and at slow speeds. I hear rocks kick up hear and there, but I haven't found any damage yet. I usually look if I hear one hit hard, plus I wash my truck by hand, and always keep a look out while drying.

With that said, if you drive on any gravel or dirt roads at a decent speed, I'd keep fronts on. The front of your rear fender would take a beating at speed, and will get chipped up pretty good.

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
No, we need them in NH. Comes the time I'll replace them with some that are slightly shorter and a little more flexible.

The front flaps will break off due to stress from going 70+ mph alone. I've seen many flaps bends completely back while driving on the freeway.

Wind deformation happens when they're already cracked after impact from some solid object.

That's not true, when mine where full length, on my way to work was highway, and never had an issue. They bent back, but didn't snap because of it.

I've had mine on for 8 1/2 years. Still the originals, however mine are shorter before they made them extra long for paint protection.

I've not had a problem with snow/ice buildup, but have had some particularly bad storms make a nice crescent shape of snow behind the front wheels. Just kick it off before it freezes, no problem.
