Timely thread. I walked into Goodyear today to take a look at the Duratracs and the guys in the shop all but tackled me to buy the Adventure instead.

They said the Duratracs are better in mud, but the Adventure is better for snow and daily driving.

    Duratracs have no mileage warranty.

    Adventure warranties to 50,000.

    Duratracs noisy. Adventure quiet.

    Duratracs look cooler.

    Adventure a bit cheaper.

Right now I'm leaning towards Adventure in 265/75/R16.

Want to read up more on them though. In the end, I have to remember that my Taco is going to the Mall, not the Mountains.

I have had them on for a month now and like them, Work great in the snow, I paid $1,001.00 and a $160.00 rebate installed at the Goodyear dealer in my area.

Being that where i work we make the Goodyear wranglers...as well as the Dunlop Radial Rovers...when i do purchase new tires and upgrade them i will be going to Dunlop Mud Rovers....I had wranglers on my Nissan Pathfinder and they were crap...changed to the muds and it was a beast...Dunlops are a far better tire then Goodyears...Thats why Goodyear bought Dunlop Tire .....

I agree with DoorDing. My wifes Lexus had Dunlops and they sucked. Not a fan in general but 2nd DoorDings opinion. I'm sure they have at least one good tire model.

Hmmm. I'll put those on the research list too. Thanks.

Incidentally: is there a load rating difference between the L/T and Metric tires?

I went through the worst two rain storms in my 37 year life during my drive back to visit the folks in Louisiana this holiday.

20th in S. Arkansas, and I had to jam on the brakes. The Adventures did wonderful.

Early on the 21st between Monroe and Shreveport, worst rainstorm I can remember moving through, and I moved as fast as I could.

I was periodically going 60 or 65, before having to slow dramatically due to visibility/traffic. No hydroplane, no detectable loss of grip.

I got back to KS last night and had about five inches of snow (un-plowed drive). I didn't have to drop it into 4wd to get through it (was just sorta checking out how a fully loaded bed would behave, normally would roll in 4 in snow).

Happy with the Adventures so far. Previous poster said they had a 50k...mine have a 60k warranty. Maybe different states/different warranties? Edit, or LT/P?

The tire dealer in my area could only get the Michelin LTX A/T 2 in E load. If I had my 350 I would have bought them, but not for this small truck.

    Bone stock for now....
Been researching tires for a while including these, but I'm stuck on Toyo Open Country AT II.

Not much real world data on these new Good Years.

They're basically silent armors (now discontinued) with a little bit of a facelift and a 60k warranty. I could tell a difference on the road noise coming from the stock BFG's. They did well in wet weather, mud, and snow for me, but there are certainly more aggressive, specialized tires out there.

I do a lot of highway driving, and don't need to be audibly reminded that my tires are on pavement, lol. My worst gripe about them is that they are expensive--little over a thou after the install.

That was a typo. Hit the '5' instead of the '6'. 60,000 was what I meant to type.

    What numbers mean:

    http://www.futuretire.com/info/finding-right-tire-size.htm

75 is a few millimeters taller, and yes. But some major chains may not elect to mount and install anything but the bone-stock mfg tire size. Or warranty them. Check in advance.

Look what my google-fu style hassan-chopped just for you...

I've pretty much settled on these to replace the stock rugged trails but my concern is with the sidewall. Granted it says Kevlar and the pro-grade seems built to handle sharp rocks but has anyone done much off-roading?

I'm hoping these are comparable to Toyo M55 tires which are on my work truck and have driven over some pretty sharp rocks with no issue.

    Thanks!

I really like these tires on my truck, but I haven't found anything that directly states the kevlar runs up the sidewall on these tires. There is an M/T R tire that it does explicitly state there is kevlar in the sidewall, but here is how the GWATA markets it:

"Helps prevent cuts in the sidewall with its Durawall™ Technology"

"Goodyear’s Durawall Technology and the layer of Kevlar contribute to the toughness and durability of the tire. The Durawall Technology, which utilizes specially formulated rubber, resists cuts, chucking and tearing, Goodyear said. "

They call it "Durawall Technology", but never say the kevlar extends up to the sidewall with this tire.

I would assume, therefore, that it does not, but I've been wrong before :)

Should be better than ok for sharp-ish rocks directly under tread, though.
