It's funny that all these dudes with 2nd gens feel the need to put down older 1st gen trucks. is this the WTF thread? You have a newer, cooler tacoma. Can we get over it and maybe you can stop talking shit! You will always be cooler than 1st gens. Yes your frames will never rust. You get more ass. You are awesome. Nobody is debating your radness.

Having owned both, I still feel the 1st Gen AC was more fun to drive.

That said, do you own it ONLY for a fun ride, or do you need to do other things?

God forbid you try to put a car seat in a 1st gen access cab. Yes, in theory, it has the little anchors. But I bet you don't try to do that for long.

A key difference in the size is the better side impact protection in the 2nd gen. Out on a trail, maybe that's not your primary concern. As a daily driver, the 2nd gen will protect you and your passengers much better. Granted, the steel rear bumper on the 1st gen absorbed a Camry hit with barely a scratch. But I'm really glad they didn't t-bone me.

Granted, when I got the 2nd gen, it was like driving an old Lincoln Town Car. So squishy - so sedan like. I lasted about two weeks before putting a 5100 kit on. As far as we can tell, it still had original shocks at 84,000 miles. Much happier with the new tires and 5100. Feels like a truck now.

A truck that passengers can plug their iPhone into.:rimshot:

Admittedly, the first trail I was on with my 2nd gen, I was thinking, wow, I miss having the 1st gen that was already all scratched up...

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Nope, I grew into liking the first gen better than my second. Both are great trucks though, I just like the smaller compact size. Plus mine is a double cab, so I really don't have any space complaints.
Whoever says the 3.4 is gutless has probably never owned one. I can cruise up any steep grade holding 75 the whole way and not drop down in speed. With power to spare, also. Yeah, the 3.4 isn't as good on gas, but, I didn't buy a truck for gas mileage so I don't care as long as it gets me to and from the jobsite each week. Sure a 3.4 would be gutless with monster tires and a lift on it, but if you keep it in stock and up to light mods, it will be fine. Mine does 0-60 in about 9 seconds.
