Just found this while browsing around.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/300959390337?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648

It looks so good and would look even better on my truck. But for $20 plus a can of clear coat I could paint my own! Deffinitely a mod to come after seeing a pic of the grill painted. Since the truck usually looks black I will probably plastidip it to make sure I like it first, then peel it and paint the grill.

[IMG][IMG][IMG]Here is a pic of one with a green grill

Doesn't that look so much better than my grill?

Why do auto people always chrome things out? Shouldn't they know everyone wants body color or black? Chrome only looks good sometimes

Make sure you prep that surface really good, painting chrome is tough. Rocks will chip it easy if not prepped right.

Color matched and BHLM. I have a Spruce Mica '12 and did the plastidip first, didnt like it, then went with a color matched from Camelback Toyota for $183. It looks unbelievably different and better. Especially with the BHLM.

Camelback Toyota is on the vendors list and has free shipping

I am actually pretty good at painting so it would be much easier/cheaper to paint my own and not spend too much. It will get extra clear coat because it's right in harms way

Any more pics of spruce micas with matching grilles? I don't see many pics on google!

Buy the color matched from camelback then sell your chrome on TW. You'll only be out $80. I sold my chrome for around a $100.

Do you have a link for Camelback. Can't seem to find them. I would love to get rid of the chrome on my taco. Any suggestions for the rear bumper?

Im planning on removing my rear bumper soon and scratching up the chrome with a steel brush. Then using etching primary and then bedliner on it. I just havnt had the time lately.

I purchased my white painted grill and mirrors through that same dealer. Took maybe two minutes to install the grill, and about 10 minutes for the mirrors. Chrome is nasty, do it.

If that chrome is anything like the emblem, I played hell getting paint to adhere. Then I read about about bleaching the chrome off; bingo.
    Might be something to consider.

I painted my grill as well but had to redo it after it only lasted a year.

The chrome will take the paint but rocks will make it chip. I sanded the chrome with 220 and then 320. I used a primer as well but as stated after a year the chips started to show.

The key to getting the chrome off is to peel it actually. It will peel off in small amounts but is a complete kick in the dick and not worth the time. It will take at least 2-3 hours to peel the chrome off so that you will be down to bare plastic. You have to use a straight edge razor to peel it and take your time. If you are not patient you will gouge the plastic which you will just need to sand out later and have a wavy finish.

After the chrome is off paint as normal.

There are other methods such as oven cleaner and supposedly trans fluid but it dries out the plastic and makes it brittle. Also most rattle can jobs do not match exactly versus a factory painted piece.

My grill looks nice and in the end probably cost me about $50 since I painted it twice, not to mention 5 hours of my time painting it twice.

In the end it is not worth it. Just save some cash and buy it.

If you do go the route of painting it, split the grill in half so you only have the chrome piece to play with. Masking it off and painting it while it is a complete piece is hack and will lead to pealing.
