As a former Jeep owner, I'm with everyone else here, stick with your toyota. Or if you get the jeep sell it when the warranty is up, or just lease it and get a new one after 3 years. My jeep was the biggest peice of shit imaginable. They look cool, no doubt about that, but the build quality (at least mine) is PISS poor. Before it even rolled onto 100k miles it needed a transmission, clutch, radiator, water pump, etc, etc, etc. I spent an arm and leg keeping that thing on the road, and it left me stranded more than once.

I had a 2007 Jeep Cherokee before buying my 13' Tacoma in July. I thought I loved my Jeep, and would never steer away from the Jeep brand. Well at about 60,000 miles had to replace ball joints, tie rods, and several other misc. items (can't remember exact details). Shelled out about $1,200 after it was all said and done. At 90,000 miles my A/C compressor blew and put shards of metal into my AC system. At 110,000 miles I had to replace all 4 wheel bearings. And this is just what I can think of off the top of my head. There were countless other issues I had with the vehicle.

My honest advice to you is don't do it bro! I know I will never buy another Jeep.

100% go with a 4 Runner dude. I debated for a while about the same "need" for a truck, and if I didn't love my bed so much I would have gotten a 4 Runner. Same price range, same level of bells and whistles (if you want), but rock solid reliability.

BTW i traded my 08 access for a 13 DCSB, love it.

I switched to an LX470 for similar reasons. You can get a lower mileage 100-series land cruiser used, retain all the reliability, gain capability, and have a hell of a rig for much less than a new jeep.

My wife has a 4runner and I like it a lot but I LOVE the 100 series.

Why would you even have to ask this question? you willing to bet $37K that you MIGHT like the JGC for a little while and then lose your ASK if you don't like it? Dude, go buy a used 4Runner and call it a day! Otherwise you will remember real quick why you decided to put up with the heckling from your neighbors who spend lots of time in the Chrysler service department! you will be one of them!!!

That is a winner in my book.

In 82 I drove my FJ55 from Washington State to SF. Same thing on I5 although I had chains already but they waved me through without them. I made it over the pass but should have stopped and put them on anyways.

Got married and the LC was the first thing to go. Purchased a lot of American vehicles since then and at one time I was a Mopar or no car type. After enough headaches, money and problems never again. I finally went back to Toyota and don't ever see myself going away from them again.

    Bone stock. For now.
I have had three Jeeps in the past (one of them a GC), and my advice would be to look at a new 4Runner. If you are dead set on getting something without a bed that can tow your boat, the 4Runner is the way to go. Same price range, same general towing, waaaaay better resale value. And IMO they look freakin badass!

It might look cool but its definately not worth 37k especially to someone who has had a tacoma which is an altogether better packag when you consider maintenance, resale value, dependaibility, and aftermarket support. I would say get a hardtop 4 dr wrangler for a couple bucks more. I'm pretty sure the resale value of a wrangler is closest to a tacoma out of their lineup. And it seems like you want a new car every 60k so resale should be considered.

Sounds like you're not unhappy with the Tacoma so why not hold onto it and bank what you'd pay monthly on the JGC. Then, when you're trully unhappy with the Taco, or have a serious need for a new vehicle, you'll have a nice deposit sitting there plus you'll be used to the money coming out of your paycheck for a payment.

    Just my 2 cents.

It sounds like you have answered your own question. My first reaction to your thread was about you having bought a lemon but you have listed all positives about your Tacoma. You may regret the new purchase once the "newness" wears off and you sending in a monthly payment along with any minor repairs you may encounter that's not covered by warranty. The only way I would consider it would be based on need vs. want and it sounds like you just 'want' to get back in a car.

Yes, these new Grand Cherokees are not the quality vehicles that they were in the early '00s. These new body styles are super cool and i would understand the urge to want one, but I've just haven't heard anything good about them. Your tacoma with the miles it has will last much longer thank a '14 JGC off the lot (probably beginning with the transmission going out, as dodge/jeeps do).

As far at camping goes, I was out in Keystone last month going to out campsite at the top of the very rocky/bouldery one mile trail. It took me 12 minutes to get up with zero isssues in my truck.. it was really fun. It took my friend who insisted on taking his '13 JGC up there ONE HOUR. Mostly because his clearance was shit and he kept bottoming out, i'm sure that skid plate is torn up now.

They do look like comfortable vehicles, but not nearly as comforting than not having a car payment.
