My 08 taco has been acting up lately. I can't place what I have done that may have caused it, so I am guessing it is due to normal wear and tear. It started to sputter a few weeks ago when I would come to a stop. It never actually dies and it hasn't yet kicked a CEL. There is a noise that started with the sputtering that originally had me thinking vacuum leak, but none can be found. I can't quite place the origin of the noise but it sounds like it is coming from the LL part of the engine (near power steering pump). My buddy is a pretty decent mechanic and he said it sounds gritty like a idler pulley going out. I don't have a whole lot of time to dedicate to fixing it right now, with work and school, so I want to have a couple ideas as to what to look for when I do dive into fixing it this weekend. Thoughts?

No it is not a normal part of wear and tear. It could very well be a vacuum leak or about a million other things. Get the ECU Scanned and look for Pending Codes.
