Bennett, you're spot on about the installer. They didn't care how dark it was but there was no liability waiver to sign, which surprised me. However, the tint I purchased actually came with a ticket warranty, so if I ever got one I could just bring it back to them and they would replace it with something lighter.

Pretty good deal imo, but I run 5% on everything I drive so I'm kind of used to it. I'm also a 50/50 ticket rate when I get pulled over.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
That's a good deal (the ticket warranty thing). I went 15% up front, and it is plenty dark for me, and I've never gotten a ticket or talking to from "the man" (knocks on wood).

I would see if they can do 15%, and then replace your stock reverse lights with 894s, and that should make it easier to see when backing up (even with the windows up).

Is there a standard % tint for stock windows? I had a slight tint on the back windows but I didn't know what it was.

Just got my 13' done with 5% all the way around with the front windshield done also with 50% front windshield and 5% strip to make it look like its not tinted. No issues so far..I love it with no regrets. My last taco had the same but, with 15% but, it just wasnt dark enough for my liking

Rad, what was your reasoning for the 5% if you don't mind my asking? Was it for looks, privacy, or something else?

I am happy going 15% all the way around except the back, I should have went with 5%. There's no way I could go 5% since I back into the garage everytime and it would be a hassle rolling the windows down, especially during rainy cold weather at night just so I can reverse.(Damn you owners with a backup camera!)

I am sure it is cool, but I would be prepared for a ticket on the front. 50% front windshield is enough to be noticeable.

WE have some pretty tight laws on tint in Alabama as well. No tint allowed on windshield. Combined tint cannot exceed 32% on all windows, and have less than a 20% reflectivity on cars and station wagons. On trucks and SUVs, the driver/passenger window is limited to 32%, but windows behind the driver can have up to current FEDERAL limits based on manufacturer.

    http://dps.alabama.gov/Documents/Documents/Tint-Law-Handout.pdf

As for California (I believe OP is from Orange County California)

My recommendation if you have the a ticket warranty and live in Orange County is to drive on any freeway and wait for the first CHP officer who sees you pull you over. Its enivitable having that dark of tint. Then take the truck back to the installer and get something lighter.

I have 5% all around my truck even over stock 20% in the rear and 35% on the windshield with a 9 in strip. I have to say that it did suck a little at first but I got use to it. But I bought some little 2x2 inch Cree led flood lights and mounted them to the side of the hitch but they really brightened it up back there! I love the tint so much I just got a fix-it ticket and put it right back on :p

I have 20% on the front two, 5% strip on the windshield, and 15% over the factory tint on the back two and back glass. Back up cam and reverse led helped but still roll down front two. In tn anything under 30 is illegal on front two and back they don't care at all ( on trucks) as long as they can see in the vehicle on front two side windows. Mustang I had 20% all the way around and whole windshield done in 40% with 5% strip. Pulled over numerous times and ticketed once. Finally redid front two and windshield no more bother.

You could see through more than I liked. Reasoning behind this is I just dont like ppl being able to look into my truck. I have lots of gadgets and to me it helps keep them hidden from suspecting thieves lol

Not a bad idea, but the ticket itself will probably be about as much as it would cost to just get it re-done in the first place.

In the words of Ron Burgundy himself, "I immediately regret this decision."

I had 2 layers of 20% giving me a 4% rating. Stripped off 1 layer of tint after a $175 ticket

i regretted it only after i got pulled over. I LOVE tint, but after 15 tint tickets im a huge target. I can drive other peoples vehicles and get pulled over even if they never have for tint. Its ridiculous. I want to tint mine but refuse to with being such a large target.

That's the reason I went for 5%. I wanted to make sure my gear in the back wouldn't be easily seen. I'm just wondering if I should go 15% on the driver/passenger windows to counter out the low vis in the back. I'd hate to shell out the $ for them to strip and re-apply, but I think it might make me feel more secure about driving it.

I have 5% (reads at 3%) on my rear windows and 10% (reads at 7%) on my fronts. Also have 50% on windshield. At first, it was a little hard to get used to. Cant even tell the windshield is tinted and the rear windows are pretty dark at night. Youll get used to it. Every tint, even mine lightens a little bit after the first two weeks and looks darkest when its first applied.

BTW, I have a medical exemption for my tint, so I can have limo all around and on my windshield if I want.
