Has anyone else seen this? My trucks Trip B has reset randomly. This also has happened on my gfs Honda Accord, same scenario. What's the limit on the Trip meters?

Both times I was resetting Trip A at a gas station after filling up. We use Trip A to keep track of my gas mileage and Trip B to keep track of Oil Mileage (I use synthetic). After resetting Trip A I cycle back to the Odometer, but when it went to trip B on my truck it said 1.7 miles when it should have read nearly 10,000 miles. I hadn't even left the gas station parking lot and Trip A still was 0.

Neither vehicle has charging or dead battery issues. I replaced the battery in my truck several months back.

    I would hope it's more than 10,000miles

I don't think so. It's less than that. If it goes into the thousands than it definitely won't go any higher than 9,999. You most definitely just found the max, it didn't randomly reset.

I guess you don't go for the little stickers on the window, or a receipt in the glove box...

Now that you mention it, I found out why I can never verify if I'm getting more than 10,000 miles on a tank of gas...blasted trip meter keeps resetting!

I know for a fact 09 crv trip only goes to 9,999 miles. i would think that other hondas are the same. I have never done more than 1000 miles on my trip.

Looks like 9,999 miles is the cut off then.. LAME

No I change my own oil. I already have enough reciepts in my glovebox/armrest. Gas reciepts get the mileage when I fill up and then when I get sick of the mess I put them in Gas Buddy.

My '09 Mazdaspeed3's trip only went to 999.9. Not even 1,000. Count yourself lucky I guess if you're complaining about 9,999.

Even with synthetic I don't think I'd go over 10K miles without changing it. That's putting a lot of trust in your oil.

If you're replacing every 5k it's easy. 35k 40k 45k 50k. Whenever the odometer says a 5 or 10k multiple is when it gets changed, period. Because I know the last change was at or very near the previous 5 or 10k mark. If you're currently on say 36k, just go 4k and start my simple 5k plan. I don't think I've looked at my B trip since about the third oil change.

I guess the early 2nd gens don't have the oil change dummy light that turns on every 5,000 miles?

+1 ... When I first started using synthetic I had the idea of going to 10K, got to around 7.5K and didn't like the color of the oil on the dipstick. Changed it and went with the every 5K plan. That was a different vehicle 12 years ago. ... no I do not want to have the "that means the oil is doing it's job debate."

    This.

They do. It's outta synch with my schedule...and it just now dawned on me to reset it (the maint required light) next oil change. :cookiemonster: DUH ... frickin' sometimers strikes again. :D

My '08 has one, but the light doesn't start flashing until 4500, comes on at 5000.
I use Trip-B so I know when I should be checking my stock of oil and filters. Also, if I were planning a cross-country trip, I'd change the oil before leaving if I were over 2500.

That makes total sense to me, but I still don't understand why the OP needs it to go more than 9,999 miles.

    Don't give them any ideas.
