    sorry for the dumb question. ive tried searching online for an answer but im sure it you guys can shed some light

    I just got my 2013 Tacoma.. my first Tacoma..about 4 months ago.

    Ive seen a lot of members compare their MPG

    I know when I look at my cluster gauge I see the odometer, trip a, trip b but I don't think I see MPG like other cars.

    am I missing something? are you guys doing it the old fashion way (pump gas, write mileage , divide)?

    Reset trip a when you fill up the tank, next time you fill the tank divide miles driven by gallons consumed. Over the course of a few tanks, you'll have a good average. Otherwise, you can use either an Ultragauge or Scangauge (or some other monitoring device).

    pump a full tank clear out trip A or B. drive til its empty and re fuel. take the number of miles driven and divide by how many gallons it took you to fill up. atleast thats how i do it. theres also either a app or website called fuelly or something like that. or buy a ultragauge/scangauge. ultra gauge has a group buy ending sunday

    I was just surprised my old 2005 Nissan frontier had an MPG meter and my 2013 taco didn't :(

    I know, sorry for saying Frontier in this forum.

    I find they are highly inaccurate as well. Even whe I have vehicles with them built in I still use fuelly.

    Old fashion methods works well. As noted, miles driven divided by gallons pumped(assuming your last tank was full.

    Then use Fuelly.com to track it..

    Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
    The odometer, reset your trip meter everytime you fuel up and when you gas up divide your mileage on that tank or partial tank by the gallons it took to fill

    on a side note, always fill the same way (if you let it go untill it stops, do that every time, if you fill it untill it spills do that every time)

    and you should verify your odometer with gps, every newer toyota i have owned is wrong by about 3 percent or so.. If you drive 150 miles in one trip, or any amount realy but further is better, set your trip and the trip on your gps and go and them compare them when you are done.

    My 2013 was generous (said 50 mph while doing 48) and all of my newer toyotas have been the same way stock. Im not sure if toyota is trying to cheat you out of warranty or make it look like your getting better MPG and less break downs per mile or what.. Maybe they are trying to slow speeders down lol.

    With 265/75r16 my truck is now almost dead accurate, and for my MPG i use a scangauge 2, which i checked the same was as the odometer and it is currently as close to dead on as its going to be. At 50 mph the scangauge says 50, speedo says approx 51 and the odometer reads accurate with my GPS so i figure its just an alignment issue with the needle.

    The light comes on my truck after burning 18 gallons, so I just remember the miles for each mpg.
    20=360
    19=342
    18=324
    17=306
    16=288

    before the scangauge i used to pay more attention that way..

    idk about my current truck but i do know that right at the half mark it had burned 10 gallons in my 2008 and the light came on at 17.5-18

    my 2013 the light comes on between 17-17.5 so i usually drive it another day after.

    Is that possible, 497/ 20 gallons = 24.85 mpg.. or are did you go to vapors and burn 21 gallons which is still crazy at 23.66 mpg OR you have a larger than stock fuel cell?

    Depending on your speed, wind and if you drive down hill you can get that kind of mpg.

    OP, do you have a cell phone with a browser? I have a www.fuelly.com account and every time I'm at the pump I enter the mileage off the odometer (not trip) and # of gallons while filling up. Doesn't take any extra time and now know exactly what my mpg is. Click on the fuelly link in my sig to see what it looks like.
