When you uncap the engine oil cap on an 05 Tacoma are you seeing oil? What engine oil are you suppose to use? How many quarts?

Generally there's oil under the oil cap. Sometimes even shiney things!

No evidence of oil!! Wtf!! Aren't they suppose to add it when you take it to the dealer to get an oil change?! Is the oil filled up almost to the top?

If you fill it to the top you will blow the seals on the engine. That is what the dip stick is for. You might see some sheen from the oil...

either im on drugs or im just tripping but you will see a little bit of oil. like nfs257 said that what the oil dip stick is for. now if you don't see oil on the dip stick better add some in there. from dot to dot its 1 qts.

    VERY

And let us clarify at this point... You add to the oil cap and not to the dip stick that is only to check the oil...

There's only supposed to be about 6 quarts of oil sitting in the pan at the bottom of your engine, and not filled to the top. When you start your engine, the oil pump then circulates it around to all of the moving surfaces sort of like your heart pumps blood around in your body. If you start your engine with the oil cap off, some oil will splash out from being thrown off of the engine's moving parts.

If you have to ask questions like this - You probably shouldn't try to trouble shoot the dealerships work.

Define "trippin" - Cause if the dealership really did forget oil and you keep driving/messing around w/ it you are only digging the hole deeper. Call them ASAP and let them fix their mistake, if that's what happened.

OK; but is it acting hinky at all? That's the more important question.

I have heard of people filling it up, with engine oil, to the top of that hole!

    Really, true story.

Years ago, my wife thought the radiator was low so she took off the oil cap only to see nothing. She was at work. She went back in to get water and proceeded to dump a shitload of water into the crankcase. She then starts the car only to hear bad noises and the engine shaking. She then calls me crying telling me the whole story.
So off I go to Walmart to get oil containers and some clean oil and filter. I think about 2 gallons of milkshake came out of that engine, I fill it with clean oil and she drives it home. 3 oil changes later, no more milkshake. That Grand Am was driven another 120K miles before we sold it.

She is still not allowed under the hood:D

I felt someone should also make a point of: YOU SHOULD SEE NO CONDENSATION ON THE IN SIDE OF THE OIL CAP. Condensation is bad. Capslock is gud :D

I don't think you can see oil when you look into the oil cap opening, although I've never tried that hard. I think most, if not all, fits down in the oil pan on the very bottom of the engine. This thread is funny.
