    Insurance?

    Look at these: http://www.partshotlines.com/

You can search just your area with a zip code for all used parts. In my area I came up with 50 or so from 65 - 100 dollars.

Looks like the drain plug from a boat. They are brass and rubber. When the latch is lowered like in the picture, the rubber expands to seal the drain. Don't see why it wouldn't work for a temporary fix, just drill to appropriate size and put it in place.

Yeah, make an insurance claim. Sucks, but get a dealer to do it and it will be way above your deductible.

Happened to me in June. Woke up, smelled a little bit of gas around my truck didn't think anything of it jumped in my truck turned the ignition on and saw my gas light turn on and gauge read the lowest I've ever seen. I was like, great I got siphoned. Drove to the gas station near by and started putting gas in the gas tank and realized it was just going onto the ground.

I paid my $250 deductible and my insurance paid $1,015 for a new gas tank and labor.

I always thought if u drill through a tank with GAS inside, the friction of the drill bit can have a CHANCE of sparking and blowing up??

Just a little thinking of mine.... i am no scientist through lol

It looks like a bilge drain plug for a small boat.
Available in a number of sizes at boating supply places.

It looks like a boat bilge drain hole plug. They make that kind and the ones with a brass T-Handle that turns to tighten the rubber plug in the hole. Probably find them at a marine supply. :notsure:

    Guess SkipperMike beat me. :D

to start combustion you need the right combo of gas Vapors and oxygen, drilling into a gas tank the solution would be too rich to burn

Wow, the meth heads will do anything to continue their destructive path through society. I would assume 2nd gen gas tanks are abundant at scrap yards. I doubt people would buy them often, so hopefully you could find one. Or a fuel cell, but then someone would try to unbolt that probably.

I went and purchased a used tank supposedly its pretty new and off an 2012. it even has about a 1/4 tank of gas in it! lol

anyone got any info or how to's on removing/installing a tank or is it simple enough to figure out once im under there..?

im also looking into this product http://www.budbuilt.com/index.php?p...tegory_id=24&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=170

think that'll offer much protection? Im just thinking if they already have a drill..some metal wont stop them

I saved this awhile back for personal knowledge from another forum but someone posted this response on removing the tank on an '06 4x4.:

To start you have to discharge the fuel pressure. Disconnect the
negative battery cable, go into the fuse block right next to the
battery and remove the Circuit Opening Relay. Reconnect your negative
battery cable and start the truck up until it dies, but turn the
ignition switch back to ON. You might have a Check Engine Light come on
but you can go to Advance Auto[IMG] Parts and have them reset it for free.
Crank the truck to make sure their is no fuel pressure left in it.
Remove the fuel tank cap, and reinstall the Circuit Opening Relay.
Disconnect yur negative battery cable again. If you have the TRD
off-road[IMG] package, remove the skid plate that covers the tank. Their is
two fuel lines that go to the tank. One is the main line, and the other
is the return line. Remove the clamp that holds them together. Their
should be a connection in the lines at the clamp. You have to pinch the
sides of the connectors, and pull the each line apart so that the lines
are disconnected. Dont use any tools when you do this, because you dont
wanna screw the connectors up. Put a plastic bag over the connecters to
protect them from dirt and contaminants. On the filler neck, thiers two
tubes that run up with it. about half way up, their should be a hose
clamp around the fill tube. loosen that. Remove the breather tube that
runs up with the filler neck. On the third tube, thier should be
another connector like the other ones, disconnect that and protect it
with a plastic bag or something. Now you need to support the tank in
someway. Remove the two fuel tank bands by first removing the two bolts
on the one side of the bands, and then the the clip and pin on the
other side of the bands. Slightly lower the tank to remove the fuel
filler neck, but dont bring it down to far so you dont braek or stretch
the wires. Remove the fuel pump cover and disconnect the fuel pump
connector. Thier should be one more tube coming out of the tank, the
fuel tank vent hose, and thier should be another connecter for it on or
near the charcol canister. Pinch the connector together and pull the
tube out, and protect the connector with a plastic bag. Make sure
everything is disconnected from the tank and then drop the tank down
    all of the way.

This crap about drilling holes in gas tanks has been happening around here a lot recently, even made the local news. Damn meth heads. I guess they don't know how to siphon.
