How far did you run it down? Most I normally put in is 19-20 before I feel like I'm sucking all the crap up into my motor.

I don't think I've ever gone much over 18 gallons when I fill up. You must've REALLY pushed the line to empty.

Edit: just went through my Fuelly.....17.75 is the most i've ever put in and I felt like I was on fumes according to my gauge.

Your 2 liter bottle of pepsi can hold slightly more than 2 liters if you fill it up to the cap.

Toyota selling you 21 gallon tank that can hold slightly more than 21 gallons is a problem because.....

They have the 21 gallon don't they? Mines 17. With the guy ^^^^^, not seeing the issue if you ran it to empty and pumped 21, which is no good by the way.

Low fuel light came on while I was headed to work. I made it all the way back home (33 miles) before filling up. I average about 16-17 miles a gallon, so, apparently I was running on fumes. I'm a rebel, I like to push things to the limit:cool:

Same basic shit everybody else had 5 years ago.
There were some gas stations either in VA or DC that were caught doing just that. You never know. I think they got a little too greedy and assumed that most people wouldn't know tank sizes or would rarely fill it all the way up. Either way folks were getting a few gallons more than the tank would hold and finally someone called them on it.

You're not going to cause any issues with your fuel pump or anything like that by running it dry one time...with the pressurized lines and fuel systems new cars have, it really shouldn't matter if you have .5 a gallon or 20 gallons in your tank. I've been caught on the interstate before when a low fuel light came on and had to go 45 miles before a gas station, and put in 21.2 gallons (without topping it off). My truck runs just perfect after that. Would I do it all the time? Probably not. Am I worried about sediment, overworking the fuel pump, or anything like that from running it down low once? Absolutely not.

OP, I'm sure this thread was made as a slight joke, but I'm assuming the extra volume came from part of the filler neck getting filled up.

How closely do you track your fuel ups? I think you got ripped off. You would've had to go WAY more than 33 miles with the light on to get that much gas in the tank.

So what is the meaning behind the opening post? Maybe I missed something in it, but with a 21 gallon tank, and you putting in 21 gallons after running the tank nearly dry it sounds pretty legit to me.

When you calculate about 16-17 MPG, then the low fuel light coming with about 2 gallons of fuel in it is not far from expected at all.

I get 17mpg and I've run 30+ miles after the light came on.....most I've ever put in my tank is 17.75 gallons. I really think the op got ripped off or his fuel gauge works differently than mine.

I fuel up almost always as soon as my light comes on and I put in about 17.5 Gallons every time. Click on my fuelly tab in my signature they are consistently in the 17 gallon range.

Typically I put in about 16-17 gallons. I dont like running the level that low cause the fuel is what cools the pump motor
