I so didn't think about how that was going to come across what I was going to say before I posted it. I'd drive both.

Are you coining a new word for people who drive auto and standard transmissions?

I'm waiting on the dealer to drive my new '14 TRD Double cab with a stick in tomorrow, from a dealer a few hours away.

I test drove a Access cab just to get a feel for the trans. Compared to my ex's Ford Fusion M5 (which is extremely well made overall) the M6 is stiff, and, as has been noted already, has a pretty long throw. It is definitely a truck trans, so if you are expecting a nimble/light touch running up through the gears you will likely be disappointed. Then again, the 5 speed may be a different creature entirely--I've never driven an M5 Taco.

Working the clutch seemed quite...long as well; I had to scoot the seat up a bit. Or maybe I just got used to having my seat back in the Auto Taco I traded.

I've always liked driving stick-shifts--we just happened to find my old 04 TRD for $13k OTD with only 78k miles back in '09, and couldn't beat that deal. Heck, my dealer is taking it in trade for $11,500.

This is pretty much it. I had a standard, hated it, got an auto. 5 speeds get better gas mileage. It's nice to control the truck more, but wasn't worth the slipping and horrible gas mileage. My last truck was bone stock, standard, V6 4x4 TRD sport access cab and got max 14 mpg. My current truck is V6 4x4 DCSB auto base with 33s, 4" lift and still gets better mpg than my last truck. Anywhere from 16-20 mpg. My average is about 17.

I like my RC 4x4 manual. Haven't had any issues but she's not really broken in.

It isn't the best clutch I have ever driven. It slips some. But then again it's the V6. Haven't driven the 4cyls.

However, the throws haven't bothered me at all. Shorter than on some of my old trucks. But I love driving a manual. And will continue to drive a manual until they no longer offer them and I can't possibly special order one....

Choice is subjective. Personally, I tow a lot and I would hate a manual to tow long distances. All winter long I pull a snowmobile trailer about 400 miles each way from Central NH to Aroostock County ME. No way I'd want to do that with a manual.

Coming from a manual car before my truck, I would prefer that. I have driven both auto and manual tacos but in this case prefer the auto. I use my truck to go off road, pull trailers etc. Auto is just easier all around for my personal taste. If I ever get back into a sports car, manual no doubt but for anything else auto all the way. It is nice to be able to eat a cheeseburger on the trail without having to shift all the time.
