I had a 2008 Tundra and one of the mods that I did (along with many others) was to put a Sequoia front sway bar on the Tundra. The Sequoia sway bar was heavier and had a thicker wall on the construction so it was stiffer. Apparently this was because the Sequoia was more top heavy than the Tundra. I was just wondering if anyone knew if the same applied to the 4Runner and Tacoma? It would be pretty cool if the 4Runner sway bar was stiffer and was a direct fit on the Tacoma. Does anyone know?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Not sure, but the TRD sport sway-bar is rumored to be bigger than the base/TRD OR sway-bar.

Are those on the sport model or are they an accessory purchase?

    They're factory on the sport.

FJ front end is closer in design to the Tacoma than the 4runner...

    Really? That is surprising.

I did find out that Helwig makes a direct replacement front sway bar (PN 7719) that is supposed to be solid and much stiffer than the OEM sway bar. They also make a rear sway bar (PN 7671). they are pricey, about $225-$250 each, but I bet that they would make the Taco corner MUCH better.

Seems like a lot of people here would suggest not having one at all

I don't follow. Do you mean for off road articulation?

I bought front and rear sway bars for an old GMC PU I owned once (over 20 years ago) upon a time. They used several proprietary bolts that you could only get from Helwig and they were shit quality. I remember a LOT of broken bolts with that set-up and not a major upgrade in cornering power.

I had one on my 2002 Tundra and it seemed to work well. I think the bolts were standard, but it has been a while.
That is kind of why I wanted to see if there was a Toyota option. Too bad they don't at least offer a TRD rear sway bar like they do for the Tundra.

In my opinion, you are looking in the wrong direction. A quality coil over set-up will improve handling and ride over stock, particularly if you set it for minimal lift (typically 1"). Of course you would want to upgrade the rear shocks to a complimentary set at the same time.

While that is certainly more money than the sway bars you are suggesting, it will be a far more useful suspension upgrade that won't limit your trucks off road capabilities. My '12 Tacoma w/ Bilstein 5100's and Eibach coils and stock swaybar has better handling capabilities than stock despite the mild lift. My wife's new 4Runner I'm running a mildly lifted Icon suspension and it is a significant upgrade over the 5100's on my Tacoma and a huge improvement over stock - again factory swaybar.

I do have a lift on the truck, but rarely if ever off road, I believe it is a 2 1/2" to 3" in the front and 2" in the rear. What coilovers would you suggest to allow me to keep the height and improve the handling? Thanks,
    Ken

The XRunner came with a factory rear swaybar...might could find one to add to your truck

Xrunner bars were 1.18" front diameter and 0.98" rear diameter...not sure if front is same design as 4x4/prerunner, doubt it is...different suspension design

Sittin sic also makes a rear swaybar

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
its no rumor, but another user corrected me on that

    sr5 and sport are normal

    offroad is smaller

i have all three and can verify this for sure

i also vote sway bar delete :)

I would LOVE to put a nice set of shocks and coilovers on my truck, but they are just a little pricey for me now. I checked with Matt at TRDSparks (they always give me great prices) and all of the parts that I would need for the XRunner sway bar install would run over $400 after shipping. YIKES!
When I did a search for Sittin Sic I found THIS website called Twelve (XII) Performance. They have a front and rear kit for $420, but I am not sure if it will work on the 4WD. I am waiting to hear from them, they are actually cheaper and probably better made than the Helwig.

I have the Helwig rear sway bar. It's night and day difference. The quality of the nuts and bolts are great IMO. The written directions are useless I agree on that but the pictures in the directions made the difference. The truck drives and handles amazing when it is pushed through the corners and canyon roads I drive through. I plan to add the front Helwig sway bar soon. It definitely puts the Sport in the TRD Sport

Good to know LH. Helwig used to be the name to get for sway bars, I was really surprised at the negative comments on TW. I had one on my '02 Tundra and it worked great. I did have to order some longer end links for my 2" lift, but it still worked great.
