If it was cheap steel...that might also explain why motor mounts have failed & the frames crack

Over at ttora.com motor mounts & failed rear ends were their big issues! Never had any motor mount issues. I had the dealer upgrade my leafs to the 4 leaf pack 10/08. Well, that changed the pinion angle & I started to get a howl. Had a new rear end swapped in at 98k under warranty!

I have a factory chrome bumper + hitch for sale if someone needs it to replace a rusted one. I has a dent left of the tag but is not bent out of alignment. I have the tag lights also not shown in pics. Delta region of MS. I will take $200 if interested.

The point is that if they used better steel for the frame we would not be having this conversation.....

Why are you paying anything? The entire cost should be covered by toyota.

I read several posts that stated toyota would replace frame but not the rusted hitch etc. I was just trying to help a fellow tacoma owner with a cheap replacement. Honestly $200 isn't worth the trouble. I was keeping it to replace my plate bumper if I ever traded. I'm a new member and honestly the condescending "wrong thread" "what were you thinking dumbass?" posts discourage me and probably others from posting anything. Probably missing some good ideas from owners. Wrong thread? Maybe wrong forum...

I have an appt. for Wed.to get my frame inspected, and am going to cancel it. We checked yesterday, and while my frame looks trashed, it doesn't seem to have enough damage to qualify for the LSC yet. I see it has an expiration date of March 31 St. 2016 for the program, and would hate to pass this inspection now, and Toyota to wash their hands of any liability, only to have the frame fall apart in the near future. Might as well give the NY rust another 18 months to take its toll before going in.

Just had my 05 Double cab SR5 4x4 inspected today, frame has a hole big enough to put your fist thru. Dealer put me in a new Corolla and tells me it could be two months to get a frame and change out and too enjoy the gas savings with the loaner car. I have a feeling that they could be backed up with frame change-outs.

I'm really surprised that Toyota does not start a buy back on some of the older vehicles under the latest recall. In on of these threads it mention around $12 K to swap the frame. (of course that many not be Toyota cost). But add in the rental and customer goodwill / aggravation cost and it's starting to make sense to me to just buy back the older/lower value vehicles and crush them up .... Hopefully one of these trucks does not wish bone on the road and cause major/fatal consequences??

    Comments??

I agree & mine is a good example...05 w/ 202k. Some dings, scratches a small dent from clipping a tree in reverse. I asked svc rep & I was told buying them back would hurt the brand longetivity. He also said the 1 gen buy back was under projected.

Hmm, I wonder why I was allowed to take my truck home with me? My hole is huge now

LOL Buyback hurting ??? What about years and years of recalls bad press from the swaps to date??

Also, What's "under Projected?? The bad Press, The qty of Frames, the cost?? Sounds like a "Duh" answer.

I don't want them to buy the truck back, cause the only thing wrong with it is the frame, which is being completely replaced. I don't care what it costs toyota, as long as it costs me nothing. My truck is paid for and has been since I bought it used in 2011 with cash. I don't have a payment, and I don't currently want another payment. So if they buy back my truck for it's current value, I would not be able to get a new truck to replace it.

Understood - but I think Toyota would be best off to give you and others the option.

That is what I was hoping for was a buy back at 150% book value. I love my Tacoma, it is my second (95 extended 4x4 (rusted frame)) but it very well could be my last one. You would think that Toyota would have had this figured out after the 95 to 01 rust out recall/buyback days.

Dropped my '05 off this morning for the new frame....YiPPee! For those of you ordering parts before your frame job, I had a hard time finding Bilstein 5100's in stock, so plan ahead!
