How do I "investigate" that. I think the fluids were done recently but I would still like to know. LSD= Limited Slip Differential I assume?

I'm not sure if it differs by year. But I know usually the TRD Sports had the mechanical LSD, and the TRD Off-Roads have the electronic simulated LSD. So the Off-Road doesn't require the mechanical LSD specific fluid. Like I said though, not sure if that differs from older to newer years. My 2010 has the electronic LSD.

Just look for a 4wd switch and a transfer case. I believe there were TRD models available in preRunner. The guy may also have just put the prerunner emblem on there to be funny.

How do I tell? Is there an obvious visual difference? Coded in the VIN?

There is a TRD off road decal on both sides of the bed near the rear.

Well, went out and took this picture of the left dash area. Didn't notice this before. Looks like electric lockers? What's the "clutch start cancel" switch do?

Buried in a previous post I stated there is a rotary switch for 2H, 4H, neutral and 4L on the dash.

Thanks for all your help and info. Since I don't plan on driving it I think I have what I need to know if I need any parts.

Not a bad idea. I may start another thread how to prepare it for months of storage. Mainly what is best to do with fuel. Full with sta-bil?

I use that sta-bil in my riding lawn mower. Gas holds up all winter long.

I've seen a lot of military guys talking about storing their Tacomas long term. I'm sure if you start a thread you'll get a lot of answers. Me personally one thing I'd do is maybe put it up on jack stands to avoid ruining the tires if its not going to be moved a long time.

Tip: Select "base" on aftermarket parts sites. Occasionally, for TRD-specific parts like sway bar bushings, you might see "TRD" mentioned, in which case you should select it.

TRD models had the SR5 badge on the tail gate up to 2010, because TRD is an upgrade over SR5 and includes/supersedes all the SR5 equipment.

Saw an older model 1st gen on the way to work today, Access Cab, TRD Off Road stickers, PreRunner, SR5, and V6 badges on the tailgate. It did NOT have 4x4 on the rear mud flaps.
