I have an issue with a clanking/clicking noise in my 08 Tacoma RWD that I hope someone here can shed a light on. The noise usually happens when I'm slowing down to around 10-15 mph. It doesn't do it all the time when I'm in gear but I can get it to do it when I put the truck in neutral and coast. It sounds like a clicking sound coming from the rear. It's not a violent clicking sound but noticeable. Could this be a rear u-joint going bad?

Yes! I have the same problem. It's your U Joint. I have a broken seal and need it to get replaced. I hope your truck is under warranty.

It's got about 105k. Turned out it was the U-joint. All is well now.

I haven't taking my truck in to get it replaced yet. What was done to yours?

The U-joint was about $24. Had some brake work done too. Total cost was about $175, including labor.

I got my truck back from the dealership today. They replaced the U joint and yoke. I was surprised it cost only $174 with parts and labors if I don't have the warranty. No more clunking and the Tacoma is happy :)
