Congrats and welcome. I'm looking at the Dynolock powered lock with the High Security Actuator instead, still undecided. I also need to add a power lock to my new topper and will wire both the tailgate and cap power locks into the passenger side door lock.

For custom made slide outs the best I have ever seen and I will do once I add new leafs on the rear are on Expedition Portal. I will not do the on board hot water system he did but will end up using most of his design. It is the best I have seen yet that is homemade. Good luck!

    The bolt lock comes "unkeyed"
When you get it, you insert your own key and turn it. That keys the lock to match your truck's key.

As a secure alternative, say you own two Tacomas and want to keep the bed secure from Valet guys... just key the tailgates to match the other truck.
You can do the same with your tailgate if say your wife drives a Corolla, Camry, or any other Toyota that uses the same key blank.

Thanks Cold Iron and others. ...and that is a heck of a homemade slide-out! Like you, much more than I need but gives me some ideas for the basic construction. Just looking to put in a pseudo lockable pullout trunk. Thanks to all!

Will the 2013 Pop & Lock fit with the 2014 tail gate? And if so, do I need to know a specific model number? And here is a question that I'm sure I already know the answer to.....why would Toyota not include a lock in the tail gate? The Tundras seem to have them. Thanks.

05-14 tailgates are the same except for some bracing added in '07 or '08.
The later handles are different depending on whether or not the truck has a backup camera, but the PL5400 will fit either truck as it replaces the entire handle/latch mechanism. If you have a camera, you pop the blank out and install it.

I just ordered one from ebay as well. Great idea to be able to use the ignition key. I don't need any more keys on my ring.

    Thanks for the heads up.

And done. Yes... truck is dirty, I'm waiting for rain, and remember, this replaced the old style lock for '05-'09 that used the factory handle but added the black piece below it. Looks like I might have a small score mark in the paint but it's not obvious.

So did anyone else have to remove the screw in the middle to lift and rotate the plate? The end of the plate with the red catch on it would not no way no how clear the edge of my opening.

You mean like it literally won't turn? Cause I know it only turn maybe less than a quarter to either lock or unlock.

I ended up putting some powdered graphite lubricant inside the bolt just to make the key go in and out easily. Works pretty good.

Yep, won't turn at all. When it was working I experienced just as you've noted it only moved a 1/4 turn right or left...but now nothing. I took the back panel off the tailgate and had a look. The mechanism to "lock" the handle can be moved manually so it's not hanging up on anything. I used some of the graphite as well (works like a charm on my motorcycle ignition), so the key isn't having any issues going into the lock, I just can't turn it.

Not sure, but I would assume based on the warning that came with the lock (little red sticker) that once it's done there's no turning back. It worked perfectly well for a week, but all of a sudden after unlocking and leaving my tailgate down while working in the garage and then closing back up 2hrs later and trying to lock it wouldn't budge. I didn't drop the tailgate down quickly or anything harsh.

As I noted, when I looked that mechanism from the back (with the tailgate cover removed) nothing was binding and the little piece that moves when you lock the handle is free to slide and well greased etc. The issue, from what I can see, is in the lock cylinder itself.

I'd take it to someone locally to have them fix or replace the cylinder but the damn thing is only 1 week old so I'd like the manufacturer to do something!

I think best thing to do now is try calling Pop and Lock. You do get a 1 year warranty if you bought it directly from them. You never know they'll probably just send you a brand new handle.

    Edit*
For the heck of it I've been locking/unlocking mines manually and using the power lock/unlock every day just to see if this thing is durable or not. We'll see.

Called Pop and Lock today and explained the issue. They weren't sure what to do based on my description of the problem so I suggested that they send a replacement and I'll return the defective one for them to assess.

I should receive the new one in a week or so, hopefully it lasts a bit longer than the first one!
