I've been thinking about purchasing a new Tacoma for some time and I figured with the 14's coming out there might be a discount the leftover 13's, doesn't seem to be the case. I can only find them for a little below sticker. What I'm looking for is a double cab, 4x4 with the TRD off road package. Nav would be nice, but I can work around that. Dealers have been telling me, "14's are very slow coming in and the 13's are pretty much gone". I did find a leftover '12 on a dealer lot with the TRD sport package and Nav listed at $35,700, that they would let go for $32,900. tried to negotiate lower, but they said it's already below invoice at that price. Building a new '14 on the Toyota website, the exact way I want it comes in at $33,900. Seams like for a grand more I can get a '14, but I just can't find one. I'm not in a huge hurry to make a purchase, so my questions are.
    • Is the '12 a good deal? I'm OK with the color, not crazy about the 18" chrome wheels. But, it's got everything else I want and it doesn't look like they've changed much from '12 to 14. Except the '12 has an auto dimming RV mirror and home-link.
    • Should I try to order one? One dealer told me that would take months and I would pay a lot more. But, I would get exactly the vehicle I want. Is it even possible to order one?
    • Or should I keep looking for a '13 or '14 on a lot?
Appreciate any advise, I'm not use to working with dealers that don't move much off of sticker.

12s are a good buy, high resale value like any other taco, if you wait til next month or January even you could prob get 0% financing on a new taco and a better deal than what you will get before the year is over.

I would far prefer a 2014 in the exact color combo I like for only $1,000 more than a 2012. Consider you could be selling or trading in 4 years, the 2012 will be 6 year old truck.

    back to bone stock.
have you looked up actual invoice price on the '12 to see if they are blowing cool air up your ass?

i had a few car sales friends..they HATE old inventory just sitting on the showroom.

    enough to go over stuff
32,900 seems high for invoice. I personaly would spend a little more for a 2014 for the resale value.

Titled or not, it's still a 2 year old truck and should be priced accordingly.

they want that 12 gone, last time i bought a 2yr old 4x4 the dealer gave me his bottom line then kept coming down as i dangled money and my pos jeep as a trade... for the extra grand if they don't come down buy the 14 for resale. you will lose a lot more than that grand on the resale of the 12 at the current price, it should come in around 30k at this point i would think so they can get rid of it. but pay close attention on that 12 to nasty driveline vibes, maybe theres a reason its still there.

I have been thinking about trading in my 08' but nothing really has changed, I am going to wait a few more years and see if the Tacoma is redesigned.

I think I would consider ordering the 2014 for the 1000 more. Especially since you are not really "needing" to buy a new truck at the moment. If they won't come down on the 2012, I wouldn't even bother with it. Granted, it's still new, the resale value with be lower considering it's a 2012. Also need to consider that the 2012 isn't the color you want and not crazy over the rims. Do you really want to invest that much money in something you are not 100% satisfied with?

Check the internet for every dealer for 150 miles. Somebody has what you want. Most dealers have a internet sales person. I had to go 70 miles for mine. Probable the most stress free auto purchase I ever made; I drove up and there was the truck waiting for me.
I'm suspicious by nature so I wouldn't touch the 2 year old car. Nobody else has, somethings wrong. I might be swayed if they offered KBB price and threw in an extended warantee.

I think you will be more satisfied with your purchase if you wait a little bit and get the exact 14 that you want. If you can find a dealership that has Exactly what you want on the lot you will get a better deal than ordering
