Does anybody think the new Chevy Colorado will finally bring competition to the Tacoma and force Toyota to really improve the truck?

Maybe some but I won't cross shop the two products.

That's true I guess though I liked the times when product cycles were every 4 years with a mid-cycle referesh.

Nope because it's GM and they ain't made a damn thing lately that I've been impressed by. Including the new Silverado. I'd be willing to bet this new Colorado truck won't hold a candle to our current trucks much less the new ones when they finally come out. Toyotas been at the small truck game for decades, GM has made junk for decades, times don't really change that much.

I can see everyone's point. I'll just be curious if any of the GM "innovations" including a diesel engine in 2015 model year will push Toyota to do some serious modifications.

2nd gens = more corrosion-resistant. My bed will never rust out on me.

It will still have traditional GM reliability. It will be interesting to see if the truck will perform better than the Taco. The 3.6L LFX V6 makes more power, but the truck is heavier.

    Im solidifying your annoyances:
    1. Toyota didn't realize your sunglass were so dark=poor quality
2.Toyota was running out of blue dye for there shocks so instead of dark blue its baby blue=very poor quality
    3. The upside down "G" sticker on frame that doesn't seem to be removable stands for "garbage" to confirm your suspicions and annoyances

Maybe they'll fix the shit rear leafs. I see a lot of fleet Colorados here in SD, and fewer fleet Tacomas. The Colorados have big loads in the back and ride flat. The Tacomas - I'm thinking the local fleet of Orkin pest control trucks specifically - all have horrendous "bro squat", gotta be riding on the stops most of the time. Can't handle the weight, and there's not that much weight back there, just a couple of tanks of insecticide and some associated spray gear, probably less than 50 gallons of fluid total. If I were in charge of buying trucks for Orkin I'd be screaming at Toyota to fix that shit. Or more likely unemployed for buying the "wrong vehicle".

The GM competition is great but we need a couple of more small/midsize players, specifically Ford, to get in the game or else Toyota's just not going to feel the pressure to change. Personally I would love to see a legit small pickup from somebody again but doubt it will happen.

As for the new Toyotas being worse? Don't know, only had mine five months. Had my last pickup - Nissan - for fourteen years. Wiring problem to the vehicle computer finally did that in, it was mechanically sound otherwise and would have gone another 14. I don't know if this Toyota is that solid. But it sure as shit is a lot more comfortable and has power to burn.

Coming from a dakota, my new sr5 is like a rolls royce, so i do feel I moved up a notch. Toyota could have done better with things like the dash, climate controls, and gauges. The climate controls are just plain cheap. What really drives me nuts is there's no oil pressure gauge or voltage meter for the batt, which my dakota had!

my 92 and 08 have had about the same treatment from me. short of my 08 hasn't been yanked sideways out of a hub-deep "situation" yet.

bouncing through woop-sections (river beds) at speed on stock suspension: check

    rock crawling: check

    rock bouncing: check

hitting rocks hard enough with something other than tire to stop the truck dead in it's tracks (with a good run at it): check

never broken anything, though I don't push as hard as some of you guys I feel my experience with both stock trucks allows me to say they are pretty durable.

though I have never owned one, If I had to pick one truck to have for the rest of my life from brand new it would be a 1st gen Tacoma, 4cyl/5sp, with manual hubs.

I hate to admit it but I think the 1st gen taco was the peak of Toyota mini-truck durability. . . . but the flimsy frame on my second gen does allow for additional traction when suspension is maxed out

heres what I mean. cab vs bed

Just the bed and front bumper (and it's only a cover for the real bumper).
The composite bed is lighter and has proven not to be a problem.

I had a '94, and in every way my '08 is nicer and more refined than the '94. More power, better fuel economy, a little quieter...
Interior door panels are nicer, fabric headliner....
