I have a double cab long bed 3"lift kit with 33"s.
So here is the story, i took my truck to the dealership for my 10,000 mile check check up. After i hear a small clunk here an there but never thought anything about it. It started after i took it there in the first place but like i said i didn't think anything about it until it started making more often. Now it does it when i press on the gas after being stopped (like at a red light). I took it to the dealership and explained what it was and how they could replicate it, but of course i got the whole "we cant duplicate it, so your SOL", "wait till it gets worse and bring it back". What got me mad is that they didn't even put it on the lift to check it out.... So im asking my tacoma family if this has happened to anyone and if they had found out what it was?? please help, i dont want it to get worse and i am sick of the clunk every time i step on the gas to go.

Is the clunk coming from the front or back?

I had issues with my dealer doing this to me. I had hit a puddle and dislocated a heat shield above the driveshaft. I didn't know this though. I took it to the dealer to have it checked out. I get the call that they fixed it and I could pick it up. I get there pay for the work and get in to leave. Before I get out of their parking lot I notice the did not fix it. Well that got me heated. I flip a uturn immediately which causes the rear wheels to squeal. They come out to see what happened right as I pulled up to the service place again. The look on the technicians face was priceless. I think it was shock that I could do a throw my rear out to do a uturn in 2 lanes of the road. I marched my self in there and told them to fix it. They fixed it that time.

I don't think my noise is related to yours but the dealer ship I go to is a pain to deal with. Nor am I saying flip a dangerous uturn but sometimes the dealer needs some encouragement to actually try to find the problem

My Tacoma made a clunk at red lights and stop signs and It ended up being axle wrap. I added a leaf to my rear spings and that took care of it.

It was the heat shield but I didn't know that because when I was under the truck I couldn't see anything out of place so I took it to the dealer. They tried to dig themselves out of the hole and say they don't usually check those.

All I was told after they were done with it the second time was"we found a heat shield bent out of place so we bent it back"

I don't know what it look like though.

But mine noise only started after I shifted into second gear not from a start so I think yours may be along the lines of what wesrunner said

What kind of lift is it? Coil overs, spacers, etc. Did you re-torque everything?

You may be hearing it from the "drivers front" because that is where your sitting. It took me a while to pinpoint it on my truck. You might try to have someone ride in the bed and see about replicating the sound.

Before anything, crank down the ubolts on the leaf springs. It could be as simple as that.

    crap bolted and welded together....
check your BJ's, or also one that know one thinks about to much.. check your FRONT body mount bolts. they can back themselves off a bit. While you check, also check the rears to. Could be one of them also, i believe 34 ft/lbs.

Does it only clunk from a stop? What about when you turn the wheels? Bumps?
