2014 doors hard to close

I realize Toyotas are air tight, but my new access cab doors have to really be slammed shut to close. If the windows are cracked open, no change. I really like this truck, but there are several disappointing issues which I plan to bring to corporates attention. Back to the doors, does this issue improve with use at all? If not, I may be taking it back to the dealer for resolution. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Bill

My 14 DC needs a good push when windows are up. When cracked even a little bit I get that hollow Toyota door slamming sound. What are the other issues?

All access cabs I've come across-all brands- the doors are harder to close due to the double sealing of both doors together. There is no "B" pillar to support the individual doors.

Don't be disappointed if the dealer says it's a design characteristic.

Same with double cab. New door seals. Won't last long, enjoy it!

More along the lines of disappointment/expectations for an expensive truck compared to other brands. The lack of a temp gauge/auto dimming mirror/homelink is one. People that buy 4x4 vehicles need 4 wheel drive because they drive in inclement weather. The temp gauge should not be cheaped out. Lack of a turn signal and lack of heated mirrors on the side mirror is another. The brochure I saw originally for this truck included power jacks in the bed of the truck. My truck was factory ordered, and apparently there were some changes on accessories at the corporate level. Heck, I bought a Kia for my daughter. It has all of the above plus collision warning during a turn, for 1/2 the price. Don't get me wrong, I love the truck. I just think toyota cheaped out on some accessories which I am accustom to having on the product.

I was going to call my dealer to see if an adjustment should be made. Really have to slam hard to shut. Might just give it a little time first.

I would rather have tight doors than loose ones, but if the windows open and they still need to be slammed to get them latched there may be an alignment issue. I would get the dealer to check it and adjust as needed. They can be adjusted.

You should have refused to accept the truck if it did not come as ordered.

    Loud as hell URD exhaust!
Mine was made worse when I sealed the doors with Dynamat.

It will get better with time I wouldn't worry about it.

But a Kia won't last as long before it starts having problems or falling apart.

Yes, I could have refused the truck and then what, wait another 2 months or longer and start the process all over? I was fully aware of most of this and chose to take the truck and adjust any perceived shortcoming with after market products. I sat down with the sales manager and went over all this before we finalized the deal. He was kind enough to show me his corporate ordering software with the available options and add-ons. As I said earlier, I love the truck, and I bet it would have been snatched up immediately had I walked. However Toyota does need to remain competitive and provide the options that customers want. I plan to drop corporate a note with my feedback. I am a very good Toyota customer (just bought my wife a new Lexus Rx450H) so hopefully they will at least entertain my feedback. Now for the mods.....

Go to the dealer and check the door-slam effort against a few other access cabs on the lot. If they are all about the same, leave it. If yours takes noticeably more effort, ask the dealer to adjust the latches. Toyota had a similar issue in 2011, when they first switched assembly site from Fremont to San Antonio. Maybe the problem reappeared.

I always had to go back and re-shut my doors.

It's either wearing the door seals in finally or I shut it harder

I cant fault you for having little issues with the truck when you first got it. You will find that these are plain jane commodity cars like a Camry or Civic except in a very capable off-road truck platform. As others have said, check that you got what was ordered, check that your door seals are typical, and anything you don't like, rejoice! Its fixable and mod-able and has enormous owner and aftermarket support.

Now the entune system on the other hand is a clusterfyuck that crashed into a chemical freight train. One of these days my fury will lead me to write a 1k word essay on the mental shortcomings of the developers.

loose doors are worse than tight ones...and they will loosen up.

my drivers is looser now and the creaking rubber on rubber noise from the seals is maddening! shes going in for another oil change/warranty list in the next week, im looking for tighter door adjustments from the dealer...

If u want auto dimming rear view mirror? then just buy an aftermarket one and install it. GENTEX mirrors, they are the same company that made the ones in earlier model years. Only aftermarket one won't be plug and play, which I think for 2014 doesn't matter anyways since factory deleted it. Want sport mirrors? Buy and install them.... Or u can keep whining... but "Corporate" doesn't care...

My 2011 was hard to shut along with the 13. When I say hard I mean if I don't shut it a little harder the air pressure inside keeps it from shutting all the way. I personally don't mind and I like to give my wife shit about not being able to shut her door lol.

2 month wait??? Unless you are ordering some really specific options on your truck I don't get it. I walked into the dealership that I use and told my salesman that I want every option on the truck that is offered and we looked around the lot until we found one. Simple as that.

I agree that Toyota should update the Tacoma with some options (IE: heated mirrors etc...). But until their sales start dropping I seriously doubt we will see many drastic changes. I look at it from the perspective... If it isn't broke don't fix it.

My 2013 Tacoma has the same door seal issue. After spending 2 years teaching my teenage kids not to slam the doors on my Lexus IS350, I now have to tell them to close harder to seal these doors. I hope this will get better over time.
