Hi all. So, the recent "factory defect" thread reminded me of this. When I set the air control to FOOT only, I still get a bit coming out the top on the windshield / defrost outlet. It's not on full, maybe like 15-20 percent, but enough to notice. Since the FOOT-DEFROST setting is next in line I figure it's a bit of bleed over. It seems consistent so I don't think there's anything loose.

Has anyone else noticed this, or can check next time you're in the vehicle? I'm curious whether I can claim this under defect, even though I personally wouldn't change it. I actually like this as I can get a little heat there without having to run the normal defrost mode and have the compressor on when I don't really need it. Good for modest winter days.

Didn't have this with my 03 Taco or previous Acuras. They sealed up tight.

    Thanks!

If I have the air on defrost I can feel it at my feet also. If I turn the blower off I can feel air coming out the vents, and it will be the temp that the dial is set to. I kind of like it in the winter because I can have it on defrost with the blower off and still get enough warm air to keep the windshield from fogging up without the ac compressor bogging me down.

Yeah, I'm the same way. Once I get up to temp I turn the fan off. With how tight the cabin is I get about the same airflow with it off vs the lowest blower setting. I'm thinking can only help wear and tear for long term. You definitely notice the lack of air if you're not moving for a few minutes though.

It is my understanding that this happens on purpose. Imagine it is 10 degrees outside and you have the heat on your feet only. If you then put the hot heat on the windshield, it could crack. By allowing some of that air to hit the windshield, it reduces the risk of breakage and keeps the windows from fogging up.

Every toyota I've had / have driven have been the same. Its good engineering in my opinion. Being able to direct the majority of the heat to the floor while maintaining clear windows in mild conditions is very useful, I've never been able to use the "floor only" setting in other vehicles since the windows fog or ice up almost immediately.

I think every car/truck made does it. I think it just varies as to how much is moving. The air movement with my fan off in my '13 DC is much more noticeable than the air movement in my 97 Chevy with the fan off.

All sounds good, and makes sense of course. This and the auto dim mirror are the only things that ever made me think a bit since purchasing. Everything else has been great for me.

    Thanks for chatting !

I noticed the same thing this morning on my new truck, and also noticed that even when turned on HI, I was getting next to NO air out the bottom when put on "feet only". This was on my way to work so I haven't had a chance to even see where the vents are, but what kind of volume are you all getting towards your feet?
