ok guys, I was inquiring about pricing on a 3 inch toytec lift thru headstrong off road. before giving me a price he did tell me this:

    Ramon,
In looking over this kit I’m concerned with the rear shocks Toytec uses, the collapse length is just too long for the extended Bilstiens. Keep in mind the extended bilstiens were designed to be used with 4” blocks, this is what comes with the kit that RCD puts out. Unless my measurements are wrong, at full collapse with just an AAL or even 1.5” block or even yet the thickness of the OME pack, you would collapse the shock before hitting the factory bumps.

does anyone have any input on this?

im looking to buy a kit for my pre runner quad cab, and after doing research in the past Ive never heard of this issue on the forums. especially since most of you have OME or toytec systems in your trucks.

I am a newbie when it comes to lifts since this is my first truck.

any advice or experience is welcome.

im not sure yet. what he is saying is that the shocks will collapse before hitting the stops. . no matter if it has an AAL or ome leaf pack.

that theyre designed for 4 inch blocks only

If you use the "extended" shocks (with less than a 4 in lift), I was told that you need to modify your bumps so it hits/stops before the shock fully compresses... If your rear can still move down, but the shock is already fully compressed, the shock shaft will possibly snap from the force.. (i.e. you can't force it in further than it will go)...

I have the OME/Dakar pack and only have the regular (not extended) 5100s.

the kit comes with extended shocks according to the toytec website.. I didnt know that people had to modify their factory stops to use them..

if this is an all inclusive kit, I wonder why toytec doesnt offer the stop modifications..

    Toyota's are awesome
    Hi Ramon,

I pm'd you back but i figured i would post in here as well.

All of our kits come with the standard 5100's and not the 3-4 inch extended 5100's. We can swap the standard 5100's out for the extended ones for any customer that wants them but you do need to extend the factory bumpstops and usually get longer rear brake lines.

The standard 5100's are good for 0-2 inches of lift and do not need any bumpstop modifications or longer brake lines

I recently purchased the BOSS kit and it also advertises "extended length" rear shocks and I opted for the OME springs. The actual part number on my receipt were the C478, NOT the 3-4" rear bilsteins part number F4-BE5-B110-T5. According to the site the C478 shocks are for both Tacoma AND Tundra extended rear shocks. So would this not even be a concern with the original OPs questions??
