Cheapest way to go is helper springs. Can easily be installed and taken off in less than 30 mins. So youbwont have to keep it on truck. Or if you are somewhere and need extra support. Just install it again

Bodacious, I'm in a similar boat as you..with a new, '14 Truck AND looking for the ability to haul heavier loads at times w/o changing the height, ride, etc. too much. I called one of the reputable spring vendors (on-line) and they recommended the Timbren SES system to me. Gives up to 2k (I think) load capacity when needed...otherwise the ride is unaffected. I don't think I would use these if I was planning on doing a lot of off-road, etc. It looks like it's a system that replaces your factory bump stop (but higher). I don't have them..haven't used them...I'm just throwing it out there as an option that was recommended to me. Re: the tailgate..I can't give any advice there. I will admit that when I shut the tailgate, I was at first taken back by how "tinny" and flimsy it sounds compared to other trucks I've had. I can't imagine that it would tolerate a lot of weight. Good LUCK!

    Thanks for the replies.
Might try the Hellwig 550EZ. Hoping that they will be a quiet solution. Timbrens SES looked like a trouble free choice but they are rated at 3000 lbs. More than I'm looking for.
Also cut a piece of 3/4" plywood the width of the bed and the length covers from the rear of the wheel wells and extend over the tail gate by 1". Hope that will distribute the weight so as to keep the tailgate from bending.

Just remember. If you upgrade the suspension you are not increasing the weight capacity of the truck. The truck is designed only to haul what is stated in the owners manual. You can wreck the axles, axle seals, and bearings by overloading the truck.

I haul my 146 Freeride in my double cab no problem, ski's fit between the wheel wells and strap it in. It does hang out a bit, but it hasn't been a problem. I have all stock suspension and have it in the truck a couple times a week sometimes driving 400-500kms.

Sounds to me like you bought the wrong truck. If need to consistently haul a lot of weight, you probably shouldn't have bought a mid-size truck.

Sub'd. Picking up a Polaris Sportsman 800 later this week, should be interesting to see how the truck handles it.
