I was just driving today and thinking I read on here recently that the Toyota Specs for tire pressure is 35 PSI (I might be wrong but the specific number doesn't matter for my question) yet my physical tires say 44 max PSI.

Is it bad that I blow my tires up to the 44 max PSI even though the sticker in the door jam says 35 psi? Or is the 35 psi on the sticker just the recommended pressure for the factory tires?

The sticker is the pressure specification for the OEM tire (size and load rating). Once you deviate from OEM-type tires the sticker may not apply. I run LT 245 75 16 E-rated tire on my Tacoma and inflate them to 44 lbs.

The vehicle manufacturer specs are for general use and even wear with average loads. The sidewall numbers give the Max pressure and weight capacity for the tire at that pressure. Whatever you choose to run, be sure to check the wear pattern regularly. Running tires at their Max rating when that weight capacity isn't needed will often result in increased center tread wear. I regularly adjust the pressures to match the loads I carry in order to maximize even tread life. Your method may vary.

Look on your door jam. Mine lists 29psi on stock tires. I run about 32psi (stock tires).

Run a chalk test if you're unsure.....

Grillcraft, with front and rear bumper/bed in the works.
Mine lists 29 front 32 rear.

The sidewall psi is the MAX that tire is safely rated for. Going beyond that is risking your truck and ignorant.

    Good luck.
