Bedliner...First post

Hello,
This is my first on here so go easy! I own a 06 v6 4x4. I love my truck and baby it but the bed seems to take a beating from loading and unloading my dirtbike. The tie downs seem cheap, and the sides look like they want to come off. Has anyone taken the stock plastic bedliner out and done something else to it, like a spray in. Is that possible? Thanks for any help.
Dan

Thats not actually bedliner..... It IS the bed! lots of people have asked similar questions. The best thing to do IMO is add some more D-ring tie downs to the front of the bed to secure your dirtbike.

OH OK wow. Thanks for the quick response. I did a search and didn't find any results. So for the D ring tie downs , you mean the same ones on the side, just add more to the front right? Thanks again.

I addded three d-rings to the front end of the bed. I used a 4" x 4" stainless backing plate on the outer side of the bed for a greater stress area.

Be very careful when putting weight on your tailgate.

What I mean with the D-rings, are the ones on the bottom of the bed in the back corners, by the tailgate. I'd just abort the bedrail cleats for tieing down heavy loads like the bike. Since the D-rings are anchored through the bottom of the bed, which is reinforced more than the sides, they are very secure and can handle much more load. TRDparts4u.com is the cheapest place to get them from what I've heard- about $19/pair. As mentioned, you'll want to add some sort of a backing plate to keep them from trying to pull through the bed.

Are you under warrantee? The dealer has a TSB to have the bent tailgate replaced & re-inforced.

Actually, I dont sell the specific material, you could find a fabrication shop to build one or, I'm currently in the planning stage of getting a few made up to sell to TW members in the coming weeks if everything goes as planned.

TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin that is issued to dealers to help identify a resolution to a customer complaint, just like you easily bending your tailgate. Here is the TSB list

I learn something new today. My brother asked me this once, if I was thinking of taking out the bed liner. I told him no. But now I know it is the bed of the truck.

Just went to the dealer here in Halifax. They cost 29 dollars a pair (but as usual we for some reason pay more in Canada) and they have a backing piece on them. That is what I am installing. I ordered my intermittent wiper switch from 1stToyota and with shipping it was still a 150 dollars cheaper. So get the D-Rings for the bed

I ordered them today. Thanks for all the help. I also talked to the dealer and they wanted nothing to do with the bending tailgate.

I would say print off a copy of the tsb and walk right in and shove it in there face and tell them to get you a new tailgate!

Right on Dilsky, but lets raise finny up slowly. Print off the TSB and go back to them and be patient, kind, and use polite words.

Then give 'em you know what if they balk.

After reading the TSB about the tailgate I don't think I am covered after all because I'm over 36,000. Im at 51,000 but I do have the extended warranty. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

print off the TSB, take it to the dealer, and respectfully ask to have the issue resolved. Some have had TSB's done even out of warranty, and even before a new model is listed. It usually has to do with your relationship with the dealer, and how willing they are to earn/keep your buisness. It doesn't cost anything to ask, and the service manager is the best place to start.

You can also call the Toyota customer service number and get a case number. These are things that take only time, no money. Hope this helps.
