    Hey Guys,
I have been a "lurker" on here for about 3 years. I have gotten some really good help when needed! Overall, a great bunch of regular posters on here..but, I am scheduled to build out my new Jeep unlimited 4 door. having 2 sons, over 6'2" doesn't work anymore with the access cab. The Taco has been a really safe feeling truck. Had to replace front wheel bearings, I still have a squeaky fan motor, and I have to run 93 octane (with iridium plugs). I get about 15 mpg with winter gas here.
so, anyone want the stock bumper plugs? where the stock fogs go..
or the connector for the backup camera? (found it in the glove box), or a homemade set of console plastic organizers?

    thanks again guys.

Hate to see ya go man but I can see where a access cab wouldn't work for you. I think I would have tried a DC but that's just me.

Good luck with the Jeep build!

    thanks guys.
thought about a dc, but sadly, the dealership near me really doesn't want to deal..funny, bought 6 vehicles from this guy, and...nothing.
thought dealer loyalty would have meant something. oh well.

I'm new here but sad to see you are trading the taco in for a Jeep. I realize I'm just one data point but I've been in the process of selling a work colleagues Jeep and the build and overall quality of the Jeep is nothing compared to Toyota, sadly. I would echo some other posters comments about a double cab. In my area, dealers rarely deal on Tacomas due to such strong demand. This might be the case with your local dealer.

Whatever you do, best of luck!

Later! You could make a build thread for the Jeep and stay, you don't have to go anywhere.

My good friend has a 2012 4dr Jeep Wrangler... He's had electrical prob's with his since it was new.

Not to mention the fit-n-finish on them is sub-par... But to each their own.

Go to the WranglerForum dot com and do a search for TIPMS, fuel pumps, and ticking pentastar. You may begin to question if that is the right choice. Just my .02

Jeeps are a blast to build and wheel, but it's no bueno to be left stranded or in for warranty work constantly. I would say get a 2013 or 2014 Trail Edition 4Runner and have peace of mind and fun.

    Good luck!

If you're determined to get a Jeep get a 07 or older with a 4.0. Heard LOTS of horror stories about the newer Chrysler 3.8's they used after that.

Failing that buy one in warranty and or buy the longest transferable warranty you can get on one. I'd love to have an '06 Unlimited (longer wheelbase), but my Tacoma will run a LOT longer.

Screw your local Toyota dealer, find another one. One dealer experience is NO REASON to jump ship on the best truck made IMHO. At the BARE MINIMUM, test drive a double cab with the kids inside. Have them see what they have for leg room and ingress-egress on both trucks.

Good luck with whatever you decide. The poster above is right for sure, DEFINITELY google the keywords he suggested and see what kind of experience other people have had with those trucks.

The TJ's (or the LJ - the '05/'06 Unlimited) are my favorite. However, if the OP or even you want one, make sure to investigate the OPDA (oil pump drive assembly). On the 2005 and 2006 models of all Jeep TJ's, the OPDA is destined to fail. Take a look at the "Jeep howling monkey" videos. That is the OPDA about to fail. When it goes, so can your engine, and quickly. There's a shade tree mechanic fix for it, but it isn't 100%.

For a daily driver, I just can't trust that it won't leave me stranded, regardless of year. I have numerous friends with Wranglers and have never once had an issue. Luck of the draw and how well you know your vehicle and the type of maintenance you perform.

Im sure the OP needs random message board fan boys tell him what he should or shouldnt buy. But the fact that you have friends who have jeeps does give you a lot of credibility.

    pfffffffffffffffffffffft

Those issues were addressed in the later 2012 models. No more ticking issues in the later '12's and up, from what I have read.

Hmmm, if I was selling my truck because my 2 sons who were 6'2 don't fit, a jeep wrangler wouldn't be my first choice...Unlimited or not.

I'm sure the OP appreciates random passive aggressive flames in a thread that is just giving him facts so he can be an informed buyer.

    Troll on.

Only the OP is gonna know what vehicle is going to fit his needs. If this turns into a bashing/flame/shit fest, Im banning the person who starts it, until after the new year.

As an owner of a '98 TJ,I hope you have a blast with your build. Even though I like the old 2dr look of a TJ, the new 4 dr that's modded has grown on me. I understand needing a larger vehicle for family, so good luck to you and maybe you'll come back when you get a "beater" Tacoma.:D

Nope. Too many of posts like this turn into shit, when the bottom line is, no one knows what the OP's needs are, more than him. I know guys on here that have gone from a Tacoma to a......*cough*....Prius. Needs change. we should thank them for being a part of the Tacoma community, and to check back with us on how they like their new vehicle.
