Factory battery tested around 35% capacity in the cold a couple of years ago. That was shortly after sitting at the airport, stone dead because of a map light left on for about 2 weeks while we were away. That would've been 6 years on it.

Just replaced my wife's '04 Santa Fe battery in the last cold snap down around -25C. 10 friggin' years old. November 2003 stamped right on it. Impressive and surprising - I thought for sure it was replaced once before that car moved into my garage with her. I don't even want to think about how hard the alternator was working to keep a charge in that thing for the last while...

Are these maintenance-free batteries or do I need to add water? I have not really looked at mine lol.

OEM tested 60% a couple months ago in my 09. Started up this am at -4F. Two weeks ago at -8F. First try both times but it did struggle very slightly.

still have the factory battery in my 06. purchased the truck in nov 05.

i have an amp pushing 600 watts hooked up to it as well.

it's still hanging in there, even in this sub zero weather. i do carry jumper cables in one of the bed cubby holes just in case.

Exposure to heat (hot weather) permanently reduces the life of a battery. Exposure to cold reduces the capacity of the battery, but only while it's cold.

In my experience, in Dallas, Texas, a battery lasts 3 - 4 years, so I replace mine every three years.

I hate OEM batteries. Because of the cold climate that I live in I find that OEM batteries don't last that long. I don't want to find myself stranded somewhere because my OEM battery decides to shit itself. I have had an Optima Red Top for over the last 2 years and never had any issues with them.

I did some research and it seems that the cause of most battery failure regardless of brand is discharging without immediate recharging to a full charge. So if you are running lots of accessories like amps and lights etc and your alternator isn't able to keep up with the power demands you will likely have shortened battery life. Extreme heat is also a major contributor to early failure. This would explain the long life I've gotten from my OEM battery since I have the combination of the larger battery with high output alternator and few accessories.

My OEM battery lasted 6.5years. I have the towing package so its the larger battery. They could not find a direct match. I took the next size down with the right post configuration.

My 2009's non-tow-package battery is starting to show its age. It drops to 11 volts pretty soon after shutdown. Still cranks the engine fine, but I'm also seeing bulges in the battery walls. If it makes it through winter I'll replace it during my beginning-of-summer maintenance.

Don't know how accurate this is. My BMW Z4 came with an OEM AGM and it died within 5yrs. I replaced with with a lead acid version which works just as well as the AGM did.

Did any of you guys notice that the battery clamps that grab the battery post is a piece of copper that only makes contact with the battery post 1/8" wide times 2... It's not like the old Lead connectors (that makes a FULL connection). that I'm used to... I've had to remove and clean these clamps routinely to keep the battery charged..... If you don't... it won't get the charge and fail ya....

    Check 'em out...

Just replaced the battery on my '12 Sport with 51k miles. Auto Craft platinum AGM. Started hard twice, clicked another. Tested out at 60%, and had lost almost 100 cold cracking amps according to their little tester machine. Alternator tested fine on same machine.
