I wonder if there are different manufactures for Toyotas leafs? Some people have great ones and others have them like XXXX. Either that or the quality control where the springs are made is terrible.

This thread has me worried in a way. My 13 I bought in October has already has 1000+ in the bed a couple times between tight-packed hay and fence post/building supplies and I was nowhere close to the bumps and it rode great, even in 4WD into the steep field to put up the fence. I have an SR5 Offroad and 3 leafs. No sag...for now.

The hay was around 20 bales so like 1400lbs and didnt sag, and the posts/poles/wire was a little over 1200 I would guess.

Here's a thread that will tell you everything you need to know about the Firestone bags and Daystar cups. The OP also put on a set of Icon aal's. He started with the 3-leaf plus overload springs.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/279865-official-firestone-riderite-lift-thread.html

I am trying to decide which one to go with, but after seeing the 1/4 cord of wood with aal picture above. I'm leaning towards the RideRites. I don't need to haul cargo often so I don't want super stiff springs, but I do use it as a truck a few times a year, and we're talking about getting a cap to put on for camping trips.

Quite the contrary. 200 pounds in the back of my regular cab and it went from a rake to dead level. Another 200 pounds and it gets very noticeable "bro squat".

Toyota's stock rear leafs are fucked, every platform, end of story. I'm glad they've sort of decided to address it with the 2014s but that kind of leaves me sitting with my dick in my hand, having to go to a local shop and get something better on my own dime. I love the truck but this should have been dealt with years ago.

    2006 4x4 extended cab ,
I did this mod and have had great luck with it. 100K miles . I pull a 17 casita ( 3000 lbs) around with out issue with lots of camping gear in back.
I understand the donahue shock are not available anymore . part#
Front Coil-Over System Donahoe Racing #5-8630

    2 Donahue front shocks
they come preset at 2" perfect for the 4X4 .. can not go higher
because of boots.. on front drive shafts.

2 - OME Dakar CS047R leaf spring packs
1 - OME carrier bearing spacer kit
    2 - OME N182 rear shocks

From a old post or mine 2007
I installed the dakar EMU leaf packs and N182 Shocks on the back and Hoes at factory 2" up front. WOW Impressive.
2006 Access Cab tacoma 4x4. I have a snugtop supersport cap installed.

The ride is great empty with 22" from axil up front 25" on the back.
The ride is SUPER fully loaded with camping gear and full ice chest on front bumper and a 70lb Kayak on top.
Did some serious wheeling, very deep sand with wheel ruts., the front to back was no
problem but side to side seem to be amplified with slight lift. The good part is I did not
drag skid plates like I did a few weeks back in same area. Also moving 80mph , dont do anything quick, I made a fast move and thought I may lose it again full load.
I am very happy with my install and how it all worked out. I belive the trucks should come equipped like this, Cadilack Ride on a 4x4. I do have some very low speed creaking from the sway bar setup. Yes it has a .5" spacer installed.

Did they change the springs for 2014? I thought they were the same 3-leaf plus overload spring packs as the 2013s.

Likely no... but every model of 6 lugger comes with the 3 leaf + overload now.

2013 Limited I purchased last August came with 3 and overload. After reading about the springs issues here and knowing I was going to put a Leer topper on it I had a set of super springs installed at the same time. So far so good.

If you want a cheap way to fix things buy something like the Helwig 550's or similar. I have 2 sets, 1 pair in front of the axles and 1 pair behind. This saturday I had a 960lb load in the back (120 8lb compressed wood fire logs, so I'm pretty sure of the weight) It was low but not touching the bump stops and it rode fine on the drive back home. The helper springs cost me a total of about $60 from Advance Auto, they aren't "helwig" brand but basically the same thing.

People want these trucks to ride nice, with little weight in the rear thanks to the composite bed, this makes designing the perfect pack quite difficult. If they beefed them up too much then you would have a shit ton of people saying it rides too dam still.

Point being is there’s no perfect solution here, its quality of ride vs. load carrying capability, pick your poison. Toyota chose quality of ride with the ability to carry a small amount of weight (cooler, couple lawn chairs, easy up…..). Perhaps they could have designed the packs to be a little more capable, but who knows if this would really solve anything or just make matters worse.

It’s got to very difficult to please the masses.
