If your wanting street use then I would just go with bilstein 5100's to level it out and go with 32" tires since you shouldn't need any trimming with them. What you use the truck for plays a big part in what suspension to do. It's also better to base your lift off of what size tires you want. If you don't want to do much trimming and don't want a full 3" lift then I'd recommend what I said in the beginning with the 5100's.

im looking into the 3inch ome lift....debating 275 70 17 or 285 70 17. I see a lot of trucks here with the 285's and its a great look but, I will have very mild off road use. Im not doing a cmc so it seems to me that I may get away without one if im not offroad and have the correct backspacing

I did the cmc but only for off roading. I also trimmed fender and beat back the pinch weld as for the front of fender i have and all pro bumper so nothing needed there. When i first put the tires on (285/70/17) i had to trim a little of the bottom fender and inner fender or it would rub backing up and turning in to driveway.with ether lift your talking about you will rub as yhe wheel can still travel up into the wheel well.if you just do a spacer lift you take away from your up travel.you say you are only driving street but the wheel still has to have room for travel even if its just speed bumps and drive ways.you will cringe every time you hear those new tires rub. Burrrb. At 250 a piece.

Just trim and do the cmc. You will be happy you did and i cant even tell mines done. Or just do the mall crawler lift. ( spacers) lol

    Just a few
I've got the OME with 886x coils and top plate spacer and I had to cut a good bit and do the CMC. When off-roading and turning...going up or down an incline I rubbed the CMC...with it gone I barely rub any more.

This is from the last trip I went on and even after trimming my fender flares I still rubbed a good bit on this turn going down

Mine was, for most people it isn't. A determing factor that no one has really mentioned yet is aftermarket UCAs. When you add caster at the top of the spindle at the UCA it will push the tire back in the wheel well (towards the body mount), not much, but even a 1/2" makes a huge difference when it comes to rubbing. Wheel offset makes a big difference also, you want to be able to clear the UCA but not push the tire out to far, the farther you push the tire out with wheel offset the arc that your tire makes while turning will increase. My original setup:

885s with no spacers, sitting at about 23" hub to fender (2.5-2.75" of lift)
LR UCAs set at the nuetral position which adds 2* of caster
    SCS stealth 6 wheels, 17x8.5, -10mm offset, 4.3" BS
    285/70/17 duratracs

After getting my alignment spot on i rubbed the body mount during normal driving, rubbed up front in reverse, rubbed in the back of the wheel well all over the place. I trimmed ALOT and i still occasional rub offroading, i hit the fender flares when the tire is stufffed, i even rub the flares on the back tires at full stuff. My advice would be, if you don't want to trim, don't get 285s. You might get lucky but there are to many factors that will determine if you will rub or not (suspension, wheel specs, tire type, UCAs, alignment specs). Even if you don't offroad it is still easy to rub, like pulling into a parking lot at speed and hitting a big bump. Check out the rub marks on my fender flare which i already trimmed the bottom of.

it seems like the majority posting here say they needed a cmc for every day driving and I agree with u uca's play a huge roll in having to do it. poll results seem to point towards just some mild trimming or none at all?????

True, most likely the people that needed no trimming are running stock UCAs and low caster, and like most have stated do not offroad. Like i said, there are so many factors thats why some guys have to trim alot, and some dont trim much or at all. My guess is they could pretty easily get their tires to rub if the wanted to.

I cut mine with a sawzall and grinder, and haven't had it boxed in yet :anonymous: ask the guys in the BS thread, there is a few guys in your area and might know a good shop.

Its easy to cut, i wouldn't recomend leaving it like that even though i have lol. I am sure it is much weaker now and could fail if i were to get in a accident. I bet boxing it in after cutting will make it stronger than stock

Ya definetly makes a difference. Some guys use the *1 setting on the LR UCAs which sacrifices less clearance and still helps with alignment. I might change the setting on mine because my front end is sitting lower with the extra weight i have added.

I have OME with Billies set at .85, with 1/4" spacer up top. 2.5" AAL in rear. Running FJTT wheels, 285 75 16 tires, I do light off-roading, mostly a dd. Only rubbing I get, very minimal, is right above where the front flaps were bolted on, and only when truck is loaded and im turning. Otherwise I get no rub.

Havent done any serious off-roading yet, weekends are spent skiing during the winter months
