It's not new, it's not Mexico
Sounds normal for Toyota. I set my auto pilot a little bit above the speed limit & don't care what gear the transmission is in. I use mine ALL the time, helps keep me from speeding or worse, going too slow.

+1. I had the cruse on for the first time over the weekend and eventually turned it off because it wasn't reacting fast enough for my liking...

On the flats, no problem.... But on short/steep rolling hills, annoying!

    LOL

obviously you have never driven a chevy.... 8-10mph overcompensation sometimes.... my 2nd gen's cruise is far superior to my 01 chevy... hell even our 04 tacoma's cruise is better than the chevy.

I think the manual says do no use on hilly terrain....or something to that affect.
You have to remember the cruise doesn't see whats coming. It only knows to keep vehicle at certain speed.
The only thing that I would change is to make it like the Hino I drove.Make it remember the last set speed. When you shut it off it doesn't seem to remember the speed it last was set at.

My truck does this, but not near as bad as my wife's POS dodge Journey. It will drop below its set speed by 5 mph and lug the motor for 5 seconds or so, then drop 2 or 3 gears and I swear it goes WOT and will be going over the set speed by 10 mph.

My truck will drop below the set speed by 1 (2, maybe) mph and then go over by 5 mph.

My Mustang never did this at all. Torquey motor in a light car, hills weren't an issue.

    sounds normal for a Tacoma

Yaris, drive by wire, cruise control very accurate and consistent

4runner, drive by cable, cruise by cable, very accurate and consistent

Tacoma, drive by wire, have a 3-4mph variance on grades

Manual transmissions are unaffected due to operator doing the shifting

It has probably always done it, but now that you noticed it is getting on your nerves.
