New tires, what size?

I'm looking to purchase some new shoes for the truck. Currently sitting on the stock 245/75/16 dunlops. I have the 4.0 auto 2013 and have been pleased with my fuel mileage, about 20mpg, give or take 1 depending on the type of driving. The dunlops only weigh 32 lbs it looks like ( hence the good mileage) where as the toyo open country atIIs I'm looking at weigh 40 lbs for 265/70/16 and 41 lbs for 265/75/16. I understand I will lose some fuel economy but would like the extra height of the 265/75/16 if the difference between the two tires I'm looking at is not significant. Anyone with experience switching from 70s to 75s notice a significant change with the additional inch of diameter?
    Thanks!

The inch might cost you 4 mpg, just a heads up. I went from 265/65 to 265/70s on sport wheels and lost 2 mpg just for a reference.

In my experience going from stock rugged trails to 265/75/16 actually true'd my speedometer. I think if you read around this site you will get a lot of that from people, Toyota has a pretty large variance in the speedo it seems. Check this page out to compare tire sizes.

I'm looking to do the same thing, was getting ready to start a thread.
I need to pick up some traction over the stock crap tires and want a little more width and maybe height.

I do most my driving to and from work and Highway but also hunt with the truck and tow a trailer with ATV.

I'm thinking that it may lower my fuel use if I get the taller tires.
My thought is this, I can not to in OD as it always kicks out to much then to 4th and so on.
So most the time I just run it in 4th towing. The problem is that I turn 3000 RPM.
The truck has a bunch of power and it is not having a problem towing at that point.
If I get the taller tires I can now tow the same speed with less RPM.
My Speed-O is off on mine and the wifes truck, about 4 mph at 70, so this may also help to correct the speed-O and bring it more in line to 70 at 70 and not 70 at 74 mph. Plus a drop in RPM of even 100 to 200 RPM could change the fuel use over a 2 hr trip at or about 60-70 mph.

Same tires as you 265-75-16 Toyo Open Country II I found them for 650-700$ out the door is what the guy told me.

The thing I worry with and want to see the fit, will there be a problem at all if you run the truck loaded? Not as much the back I added Air bags, but the front, with a load in the cab, gear and or people the front sets lower also. Mine is 1" or so lower then the wife's truck, same other then the LB vs SB.
I plan to remove the rear seats and build a wood base and locking back to cover the tool trays, the only thing in the back of my truck is the Lad or hunting gear, all others can walk... I pulled the bottom seats and there was a bunch of room less the 4-6" thick seat base. The back is about the same.

As I said, both mine are off 4 mph or so.
Was told they do one setting on them for the largest tire package they sell factory and go from there. They would not correct any of the two trucks I own but did say they are not correct, and it adds extra miles cutting 36-60 warr.

With 265-75-16 you should have no fitment issues. I had my 265-70-17s (same size overall as what you're looking at) at stock height and did some wheeling and had no issues. I had to remove the mini air dam flaps on the front of the wheel well was all. I was rubbing the passenger side one in reverse at full lock. I went with some pretty meaty Duratracs too, and still no other issues than the little front flaps.

One thing I forgot to mention, both tires are P rated? Thus the small weight difference. When you changed did you keep the same load range? 2mpg is significant to me, but some of that could be different for me if you went from a stock P rated to an LT.

I did go from a P265/65 to a P265/70, I think the michelins were load range C and the BFGs were load range D, I could be wrong, it was several years ago.

i put the 265/70/16 on my taco and had the same MPG loss as TacoJohn... built a cold air from spectrum for $75 and got my MPG back... just a thought.

So I wonder is they rate the MPG different on the trucks with 245 vs 265?
Or maybe there is no real true test to see if you had a 2 mpg loss as you Speedo changed and your Od is not reading the same.

It would be hard pressed to say you loss or gained any MPG difference when changing tires as the RPM, OD, Speed-o and all change.

You would need to find a true way to track the miles with GPS before and after new tires. Also used up tires, say 265-75, that are used up are more the size of 245-75..... So the MPG on a used set of 265-75 should = a new set of 245-75.
Go from a set of slick used up 245-75 to a new set of 265-75 that are taller, not all sizes are standard... And you could see a difference.

But the truck with no load should do better on the flats say 65mph with bigger tires (within reason) then smaller as the larger lowers the RPM= less fuel.

Add load, hills, trailer, anything to make it harder to turn and = more fuel.

This does not add up, 245-75-16 is about or the same size as 265-70-16 pending brand.

If you added other mods, lift, rims, lights, Maybe they were hard core mud tires, then I could see the loss.

Other then that something else changed if you went 245-75 to 265-70 and your MPG dropped.

Well I would expect dougtara to lose some fuel mileage due to the wider, heavier tire, even though the height is the same. But I expect that it would not drop considerably. I would hate to fall below 18mpg consistently by switching to a 265 all terrain

I just bought some Hankook Dynapro 265/75/16, kept the stock rim. So far the mileage is still around 19.5 average 60% Highway driving. Tires feel way better than the Stock BFG's. At full lock the tires come close to rubbing but none yet.

    Bone stock for now....
One thought, I just went through a lot of research looking to keep weight down while switching from an all season to an A/T type tire. Based on my research, a light AT tire is about 40 pounds based on P rated tires that are 265/65 or 265/70. My stock Dunlops are 36 pounds, went up one size to 265/75 ATII's and they weigh 40 pounds. My point is, you have to pick your poison at some point and you are unlikely to find an A/T tire significantly lighter than the ATII. I'll deal with the mpg loss to have a tire that works on and off road and looks way better.

    My .02 is 265/75

Getting the new Toyo at2s installed right now. 265/75/16. I will let you all know how it effects fuel and handling. I already cut the flaps so I hope that is not an issue. Should look and perform a lot better than the stock dunlops. Place I got them will also swap them even for the same tire 265/70/16 if I don't like them (fuel mileage would be the only reason).

Any updates on the new tires? I'm already looking to spend my tax return and rims and tires are the plan as of now.
    Thanks.

Yep I would really like to see pictures, I ordered mine at the dealer and going to put them on this week end, would like a little feed backe before I do.
They thought I should stick with the 265-70-16 not the 75
