Is it an OEM bug deflector?

I had an OEM, took it off, and the metal clips that grasp the hood....took paint with them... :(

I had to lose it...but some times the paint chips bother me even though i've filled them in with touch up :/

Yeah it's one of those. It's been on the truck for over 4 years. Not sure if i should but like the look without them a lot better.

I very much prefer it off. I think it didn't do much but look like a mustache. I can take pictures of my paint chips tomorrow and post them so you know what you're in for. I'd hate to be the reason you couldn't make your truck what you want but i think you might want to see anyway. :) i'd take paint chips and no bug deflector over covered up paint chips and a bug deflector....but thats just me

    Off

These are two chips from two different angles. These should be the only places that will chip...any where else will just be a haze that i removed with rubbing compound and wax.
Also keep in mind mine was on for roughly 4 years as well.

Also take notice to the duplicolor touch up paint that doesn't match :(

I intended to get OEM touch up paint to really cover it but never did. OEM from the dealer is the best way i have found for touch up paint on other toyotas. You can definitely cover it up better than i did and most people will never know the difference! Hope i've helped!

    Lose it.

I have never got a paint chip on the hood of either of my 2 Tacomas. The hoods on the Tacoma are so flat that it would have to hit just right to chip it where the hood deflector sits. IMO it breaks up the lines of the truck and makes it look much worse. That's JMO.

I like mine. I've had one on every truck I have ever owned: Silverado, Tundra and Tacoma.

It's all a personal choice. If I had to choose between a deflector that is already on or paint chips, I pick the deflector. Again, all a personal choice.

Pretty sure they're talking about paint chips caused by the clips holding the deflector in place, not caused by rocks (or ridiculously large bugs).

Lose it. The lines on the Tacoma are already beautiful, using that is like asking a super model to paint on a mustache.

You should have a small silicone strip that is placed on the hood before the clips are applied. This protects the hood from scratches or chipping and is included with the oem Toyota Deflector. I just installed my deflector a few weeks ago.

Mine too. It was the first thing I took off the truck when I brought it home... Going to play hell getting the tape off for starters, got one pad off and it took a half hour, and then have to fix all the chips in the paint. I am NOT a fan of these things :(

This is what it looks like now after i took it off. It took a while because I had to scrap off the old residue left behind from that 3m tape, but overall I think it looks much better! What do you guys think?
