Sad to say, my modding of my 2012 Tacoma must come to an end as my expenses must now be redirected and she will have to stay as she is for now...... Yesterday, I was taking a different route home and out of the corner of my eye, I saw something that grabbed my attention down one of the side streets. After saying to myself, "No freaking way," I went back around the block to take another look. Sure enough, it was a Land Cruiser, FJ40.....and it had an orange sign in the window. Not only was it a FJ40 in pretty good shape, it was also the same model year as me. I've always wanted to try an old Land Cruiser someday and I've also wanted to find a neat old Jeep or Toyota from 1977. Two birds, one stone as hey say.

Let me present ........(no name yet)
    1977 FJ40 Land Cruiser
    96,000 original miles
    Inline 6, 4 spd
    2 owner (I'm 3rd)
CLEAN frame, pretty good body for age
    Original, and runs strong

I think I got her at a pretty good price based on similar models for sale online. I plan to clean the rust and keep her running strong. I might do a small lift, but this one will stay very close to original.

If any experts out there would like, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the value. PM me with your thoughts, don't be too harsh. :)

I love my Tacoma, I'll still be around this great site, but she won't be growing any more.....for now.

I had a 79 AMC cj5 ... while not the same as the FJ40... vehicles of that era and style are fun and so damn easy to work on as they are SIMPLE. Motor transmission done.... no fancy ecu no traction control just you and the vehicle.

And I6's are some torque monsters! thats a cool rig!

I love old FJ's but I have worked on, and driven a lot of them, there not hi-way friendly, noise and a true gas eater, if I had the room I would love a soft top FJ for the week ends but we went with a Wrangler here. not to say you shouldn't give it a go.

Thanks everybody. I'm a little nervous about learning body work on this one, but it will be minor and since it won't be the daily driver, I'll go slow. And woof359, I hear you, but this won't be the highway queen of my garage. I've had 7 Jeep Wranglers ('95-2006) and I wanted to try something different. This thing even came with a soft top and doors, which the 2nd owner (had it for 20 years) never put on. I think the hard top has only been off of it once based on the stories I'm hearing.

I had an 1982 FJ40 and I loved that bitch! My wife got preg and we had to let it go. Was not good on gas. 12 MPG no matter where you drove it or how much you beat it. It would go damn near anywhere!

    Congrats.
