Redline to 7K, After effects?

I was racing my friends ford F-150 with my 4 banger. No, launches but extremely fast shifts. Were talkin about 1/2 second and not letting up on the gas.

From gear 1 to 2 Fine, 2 to 3 fine, and from 3 to 4 i slip and it redlined to 7K (not kidding) and i smashed down the clutch and let it lower itself back to 3K.

I know going a tad bit over the redline is okay but were talkin about 1.5K over. What's the after effects =(.

NOTE: I was ahead of him till 55+ then i lost it (just a bit not far behind... very impressed) and i redline at ~80

 

I know the 4.0L has a rev limiter in it so you can get to 7k. I am guessing the 2.7L doesn't?

 

Wow are you sure it went to 7K? I would think it would have a rev limiter....I dont know i've never tried that haha.
After effects....thats pretty bad for engine internals unless they are engineered to withstand it. I'm not sure what the 2.7 can take, you can be our guinea pig ok? haha
Plus going to 7k most likely does not really help you much. If the engine is not made for making power high up you are probably actually making less power at that rpm. You will probably go faster shifting at 5500rpms than you will shifting at 7k. Although you would have to see a dyno chart of your engine to confirm this.

 

Yeah, the only way he could have hit 7k is if he missed a gear and accidently downshifted (did that in the beamer a few times) All cars have rev-limiters now a days so i dont see how he could hit 7k unless he missed a gear.

 

From 3 to 4 I missed a gear =[. otherwise I shift around 5500RPM.
I think it's fine tho, I didn't smell anything funny. Anyone replace their standard crutch yet?

ok I found a dyno chart. It starts falling right before 5k rpms. So waiting to shift past 5k rpms gains you nothing. You'll go fast if you shift at 5k if its stock. If you change exhaust/cams/timing or other things it could change. But if its stock shift at 5k for fastest times.

 

Could I get a link mud?

BTW there is a REV limit at ~5.5K -5.8K. Yesterday, I recall i forgot to shift at 1 and the engine just bog down.

I hope this engine (2TR-FE) is as reliability as the old 2.4 2RZ-E

 

The k&n ones drop off a little slower than the one I saw. The one I saw was on customtacos.com forum in the group buy section under 2.7 liter tri y group buy.

 

lol its a toyota...redline it then love it alittle it will forgive you... before the diesel swap on my 89 I had it redlined in 2nd gear 4low pulling a dodge ram cummins diesel out of mud to his bumper (stock tires he tried a 2 foot deep mud hole) then once he started to move backwards the moron hits the brake....he was still in the mud so i just kept the hammer down...33/14.00/15 boggers on a fully locked toy will flat drag a dodge...BTW lol

My friends dad had a subaru brat back in the day...all his friends with chevy 1500's and ford f250's made fun of him and teased him that they'd pull him out when he got stuck.....Turns out....all THREE of them got stuck and he went off the trail around them through the trees and pulled all three of them out haha.....That shut them up.

 

yeah i wont take all the credit though a guy with a nissan frontier was there 3" lift stock bridgestone tires...i said hook the toy and nissan up and we should be able to just crawl along and pull him out together..."nah just move your truck out of the way I'll get him out" (i didnt know the guy with nissan or dodge...i was called in by another member of this little know nothing outing lol.... so i move over and watch as the nissan pulls up to the dodge...wraps a log chain around the dodge hitch and then backs up hard... chain snaps putting huge dent in 07 dodge ram (the boys dads) then they try again..(still in reverse)...chain hold rips the front 6" of frame rail off the nissan.... my gf is laughing by this point...I'm getting pissed and told the guy with the nissan to move or I'll move him then the dodge....i go over Back up to dodge... use my trusty snatch strap from my reciever clevis to his reciever hitch...and tug 2 times...and free... i think the nissan guy softened it up for me...you know got it out of the holes HA HA HA

 

I pulled a 97 Ford Explorer out of a mud pit in the snow with my 94 Subaru Legacy. Subarus are awesome - they just don't make a real truck.

 

Hey zilla, i got a question for you. I'm looking at some tow straps. there are two kinds i'm looking at. One is just a regular strap, the other one works like a rubber band, so you build up momentum and it yanks the person out. What do you recomend?

 

oh let me tell you......., i have been down that road many of times. tow ropes are tricking little thing, once you think you've got'em........then bam....no mas man they just rip right in two. i have pulled people out of the mud before and so far the best tow strap i have used is a crappy little one from walmart. its about 30' ft long and it has a test line of i think 5200, not too sure on that one. but that little guy is pretty good by my standards, also it depends on how you pull people out and where you hook your strap. usually i give a nice slow tug and if they are not movin.......its good old 4x4 and a lot of gas.....ruthless i tell you.........RUTHLESS!!!

supposedlly it has a 12,000 lb break strength. This is just the standard tow rope, not the bungie kind.
