I too just got this last night. Traveling about 50km/h, Rpms around 1500. The knock was quite loud and constant with the revs. Went away after a minute Shut off the truck and fired it back up. Drove 3 km and it came back while accelerating, I rolled down the window and it was a loud knock, again 1500-3000 rpm constant with rpms. I've read there is loud toyota tick, but this however is a loud knock.

Running 5-30 syn, 91 octane, 6000 miles on the dial

Saw that thread too. :( My dealer is pretty good with going above and beyond to fix anything so I'll let them know.

Would it matter that I did my own oil change? I used a toyota filter and RP 5/30 synthetic.

My six speed taco did something like this with a vengeance. It would only happen after the engine was fully warmed up, shut off, and left to sit for ~10 minutes. Then after restart when driving with any rpm over 1400 or so it went whack whack whack for about a mile. Not a harsh banging noise like rod knock, more like piston slap on steriods, but very very loud. I never made the connection back then but it did sound much like a helicopter.

Never did figure out what it was. I only put 26k on it before I sold it. Engine never used any oil either, although it was losing about a quarter litre of coolant somewhere every six months or so.

More to the point, what caused the blockage? Was it a bad oil filter? Was it debris from inside the motor?

I've noticed on my 4.0L that, using OEM filters, if the truck sits for a week or so, and I start it up, it takes a second for the oil light to go off. The anti-drainback valve isn't doing it's job, I guess.

Mobil1 filter. Thought I used the toyota one but guess I should read it next time. As soon as I put the toyota one on, the light instantly turned off on a cold start where as before it took a couple seconds.
