Messing outside before the NFL games. Passed by The Home Depot and say this Plasti Dip stuff less than $6.

Wanted to see how black wheels would look on the Tacoma. Said why not. Also did the emblem. Pretty easy. I suck with the Rattle Cans and most the times applied to much on. Anyway it is temporary and gives me an idea aside from Discount throwing some temp wheels on (no sale pressure with Plasti Dip).

I like the chrome look and the black look.

Did you take the wheels off or leave them on? How many cans did it take?

Personally dude, I really like the look of the black wheels on your truck.
If you feel like making it permanent, I saw this thread a while back that offered some good wheel painting basics.

I did a rush job. Probably 20 mins all four wheels. Left wheels on the truck. Wrapped rotors with plastic bags, same way plastic dip guy on YouTube did. Put about four coats on each wheel.

Ran two coats. Moved truck up a little to rotate wheels. Ran two more coats. I practiced a little on the toyota decal. The plasti dip spray head sucks though. I am no good with the rattle can to begin with.

You can easily do all 4 wheels with two cans. Run you about $12 depending on where you get the plasti dip. At home depot they had black, gunmetal Greg, and white.

Thanks. Every person I showed like the black wheels. Next thing to black out is the decals and get the blacked out vinyls.

The black looks cool! If my truck wasn't as old as it is, I would've used plasti-dip for my wheels. I take my truck off road but mostly on trails, so I think plasti-dip would hold up for that. Personally though, I think it would look better without the front emblem being black, but it's your truck, so keep it the way you want! :)

    Awesome truck.

I am gonna hit it with some glow in the dark paint over the plasti dip so I can just peel it off later. My kids would think it is cool.

So that's what my wheels would look like black. Nice.

I found that doing bigger jobs then just emblems, you should have a trigger sprayer. I found that they work a lot better. You should be using a can per rim. But really, for the price you can't really beat what it does.

Really one can per Rim? That seems super thick. I used less than two on four. All I did was the exposed part of the rim. Not a lot of area to cover. I even did part of the hood and the door handle area that gets scratched when opening the doors.

I have no chrome bleeding through either.

    Just did mine tonight.

I used 1 can each rim plus cap. Wanted several layers for better coverage and protection.

This is what PD suggests for people to do if they are going to do their rims. I can understand that because the thicker it is the more protection. Also if you were to peel it off, it's going to come off in a sheet together. If you have thin coats it is the biggest pain in the ass to get off.

I just looked at where you live. With the amount that you put on could be fine within the climate, roads of where you live. Where I live the thicker the better. Plus it will protect better from rocks, sand, salt and debris from the road.

I had some overspray in some areas and it was easier to hit that area with more coats and peel it off that way. That is when I was messing around spraying on the hood.

I made sure the next time to tape better. I even ran some some plastic wrap as cover.

When I did my rear bumper last summer I had a lot of overspray. It was just a thin layer. I had to use Goo Gone to get it off. You can also use Dip Dissolver to remove overspray of dip as well. Making sure you cover everything you don't want dipped on.

As long that it has lots of coats and is thick, it will peel off. If there is a not a lot of coats and is thin, it will come off in pieces.
