A gift to my son

I purchased a 09 Tacoma Reg Cab 4x4 last Nov and started a few mods on it. I wanted to keep the mods simple enough using mostly Toyota parts so it would be easy to replace under warranty if the need arose. Other mods were to upgrade the reg cab to have options that were on other models and not available to reg cab 4wd's

I spent the better part of the winter in my garage working on this and kept it a secret from my son who lives elsewhere in NY. The truck has only 124 miles on it as of this writing.

The mods include:
4WD switch illumination mod
Removing 2 speed wipers and installing intermittant switch using a 08 Tundra part number
Installing a interior rear view mirror with 3.5 inch rear view screen making the rear view cam in the tailgate handle operational.
Toyota Step bars
Toyota fog lamps and switches
Toyota Shark antenna installed in the A.R.E bed cover
Avic z1 xm cd navigation unit
TRD 16" wheels w/ 265 70 16 tires
PIAA driving lights custom installed in front bumper and wired into a Toyota fog light switch in dash
Trailer hitch and Toyota wiring harness
Fire Fox led tailgate lights
White Headlight mod
White grill shell
Frame and underbody Teflon coated
Debadged
Front Toyota emblem painted white

I am trailering it down to him this week and he still has no clue. He has always wanted a Tacoma 4wd, but not the means to purchase one, so this is my gift to him for all the help he gave me when I was going through some rough times. The plates on the Tacoma belong to me and not getting transferred over to him. The reason being that viewed in the rear view mirror of a cop car, the plates spell out a 4 letter word and he has enough trouble with speeding tickets already. Amazing what you can get sneaked passed thru the motor vehicle dept in NYS
My 08 5.7 supercharged Tundra is what I am using to tow it down there. Ya didnt think I would use a chevy or ford now, did ya?

 

I am positive that he will love it, not only cuz what you have done to its is wicked nice, but that YOU took the time yourself to do it. I hope that some day i would be able to do something like this for my father or my son. Props and rep!!

Moving moment. I envy these types of father/son and daughter relationships. Beautiful job on the truck. I love those driving lights in the bumper.

 

WOW, all I got from my old man was beer bottles thrown at me. What a lucky guy and a great father. I think recording his reaction would be priceless.

I am still young but when I get older I hope I can do this for my kids.

 

Wow...That's intense. My dad trailered a truck for me once....After the engine blew up on me in the middle of backwoods VA.

No where near as cool as this truck on a trailer combo.

Way to go dad! He must be a perfect kid. But aren't all kids perfect in the eyes of their parents? Well...most of them anyways.

 

The Polaris Razor S is one incredible machine. We took it out on the frozen lake this winter and got it up to about 60mph with no problems. On the snow covered tails it performed very well. The suspension is incredible and not once did we roll it on steep inclines. The 4wd works flawlessly. On paved roads, it rides smoother than my Tundra and keeps up with traffic quite well even though it is NOT road legal for some odd reason in NYS. The width between the tires is wider than the regular razor which accounts for its better stability and less chance of a roll over.

I will record on my cam, my sons reaction when he sees the Tacoma.

 

I love the look of those shell tops, and I bet they are world's more quite than my tonneau cover. The only reason why i dont get one is because you cant put anything taller in your bed...

 

You're an awesome Dad. One lucky kid. I hope one day I'll be able to do something like this for my own kid.

I hope to follow in your footsteps when my son is ready to drive (assuming he continues to do the right thing). You must be proud. Wish I was there to see his reaction! Perhaps this calls for a father/son off-roading trip through some mud. Nothings better than pulling your son out of a ditch in a Tundra. You still had to be the bigger man!

You rock, must be a great kid, congratulations to both of you. Post a picture of him when you give it to him. My oldest brother has a friend that 25 years ago father and son built a 40 Ford pick up together, the son was in jr high and than high school at the time. The son went off to school got married and got on with his life and his dad sold the truck, it was only a father son bonding thing. A couple of years back when his son and wife had their first child the dad tracked down that same truck and bought it back for his son and gave it to him for his first fathers day, he said he balled like a baby for an hour.
This is something you both will remember forever, again congratulations on a great kid!
