Placed an order for the following truck which is being built 1/31 and delivered two weeks after:

    2014 Access Cab
    4X4
    TRD Sport Package
    Entune Plus (ED)
    7-to-4 pin adapter
    Bed Extender

MSRP is 32,578, which is comprised of the $860 processing fee. Dealer's first offer was 31,492 and they made sure they told me their processing fee is only $34 dollars. Just me figuring, but that means the dealer is really only cutting a deal of $226 off of what they normally would. Maybe I'm wrong and that extra $860 off is a really good discount.

I was thinking of countering with like 30,750 and seeing where it goes. What do you guys think?

When I bought my 2010 I called about 8 different dealers to find who had the lowest. Find the invoice price (or whatever its called) and then see who gets closest.

I got my 2010 offroad access cab for 30k.

I've already placed the order with a particular dealership as they're honestly the easiest dealership to work with in the area (both my family and my wife's have purchased from in the past).

I see. Well I would counter back at them, but they wont accept your counter, so counter back low. Counter at like 30,250 and then see what they do.

You already ordered, so they aren't going to change their price now. Negotiating should be done before you have them build because now they hold the cards. You tell them you want it cheaper and they say that's the best we can do. You threaten to walk (the only thing that matters to them, losing business) and they let you know that they have rights to your truck being built. That means unless you want to wait for another to be built they can sit on the price. Just what I have seen with others. When I negotiate I don't even tell them the color I want until we settle on a price. The change in color doesn't change a price but if they know you want a specific one they will keep that price a little higher.

If I have to walk I will. Told them that when I ordered and they said they understand. I placed a $500 deposit and I was told they would refund in full if we couldn't come to terms.

No idea...some crap Toyota claims is part of MSRP if you build a truck on their website.

it's officially called "delivery, processing, and handling fee"

I'd check truecar.com or the new kbb.com car sale prices and go from there. Generally, it's hard to get a really awesome deal on a Tacoma. They hold their value so well, it's hard to get a new one for a lot off. It happens, but it's rare.

You have to buy from a dealership that does a lot of volume to get the best discounts.

Awesome point. The truck I ordered shows up as 31,286 on truecar.com, so the dealer is only about $200 hundred higher. I am going to try and counter at around 30,500 and see what happens. Unless you guys think we're way off base I think the dealers original price is pretty close the more I look at it.

Yeah but the average sale price on truecar should still be a good starting point. You may not get the best sales price reported on there but you should be close to the average.

so after the dealers initial offer of 31,492, I countered with 30,500.

dealer came down 200 to 31,292, and I offered 30,900. Dealer didn't budge so I agreed to pay 31,292 if they threw in a bed mat. We'll see what happens in the morning when they respond.

Thats why I said to counter lower, because If you say 1k lower, they give up a few hundred. Tell them 1500 lower, in your mind you pick a target, and walk if you dont get it.

So counter the 31,500 down to 30,000, but willing to accept up to 31000. All he had to do was give up a measly 200 and he got you to accept. Gotta play harder than that.

I didnt go through this bs though when I got mine, I simply called around and went with the volume guy who got me the lowest price possible.

Your buying a truck thats gonna be built on FRIDAY? You should have told them to built it on a tuesday thru thursday. Lol. Anyways like post earlier, it depends on where you live and if they sell high volume of tacoma. But Edmunds.com is a good site. Shows you what people are paying around where you live.

I picked up a 14' DCSB 4x4 sr5 (w/towing & entune plus) for 29,300. Sticker price was 32,190, true car price is 30,115. That being said I think they can go lower.
