    Hey Guys,

Looking to purchase a CB. I've read a ton of the CB threads on here and decided on the following products. Please let me know if this is all I need. I'm mainly concerned about the quick disconnect I pick out. I'm wondering if that screws right into the relentless fab mount or if I need another part to help it screw in to the relentless fab mount. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Quick Disconnect: Firestik K-1A Push and Twist quick disconnect

To tune it you're gonna need an SWR meter if you don't have one. Also consider getting an external speaker for it.

I've read some good stuff about that quick disconnect. I personally don't own one though.

I didn't opt for the firestick setup. I've got a Cobra 29 LX. Mounted a 4ft. regular cb antenna to a mount in the bed rail & ran an external ground. I used PL-259 cable. You will need to SWR tune for optimum performance. I had a trucker friend do mine after i calibrated it myself. Sounds like you have everything u need.

Thanks for the responses. Just wanted to make sure I had everything. I'm going to look into an swr meter now. Any recommendations on a quality meter that won't break the bank? Thanks

Look on eBay and Amazon. You can get a good enough swr meter for around $20

That's the exact disconnect I used with my Relentless bracket and a 4' Wilson Flex antenna for the past couple years and it worked great. As mentioned, you'll also need a mount. There is not a lot of room for the coax under the bracket when the hood is closed so you can't go straight into the cable you've chosen. I went with a Firering coax and a stud-type mount which screws up from underneath, through the coax, then Relentless mount, and then into the bottom of the disconnect.

Ignore the extra hole in the mount, I drilled/tapped that when I was using a different coax with an external ground.

As to an SWR meter, I picked mine up from the nearest truck stop and it works great.

Here's a good link for all sorts of CB-related info:

DONT BUY ANYTHING BUT A GALAXY, either galaxy44 or galaxy88, the rest is garbage. also get a good linear, if you can find an old pride 100 they are great and usually not that expensive. you can talk and peg your buddies meter all the way across town! the galaxy's put out about 25 watts stock and you have thousands of channels above and below chan 0 and also FM option. the 88 has a digital display to choose freq's thats the main difference. trust me you will not be dissapointed by the extra cost

as far as antennas, firestik are ok, but the old skool metal whips are the best, but not practical. for best magnet mount get a wilson K40! i always found the k40 works better than the fiberglass ones

    hope that helps some :)

    cheers,
    disco

I agree with the above about the relentless mount, it leaves very little space. Even with a right angle connector, I still had it pressing down on the windshield. I actually tried different studs, different connector setups, etc. and nothing would make it not put force on the windshield. Soon after I installed, I got a long crack in my windshield as well - I'm not sure it stemmed from the mount, but it definitely didn't help.

I finally found the firering and put that on. I think its the only way you can use a relentless mount effectively, which is a shame because its a well made mount and they could have just made the bend a little more severe and fit everything better.

Also, depending on where you're mounting the CB inside the cab, a right angle connector can be extremely helpful. If you're going for the hidden center console location, you'll definitely need it.

true but I would listen to a guy that owns a cb shop cause the fire ring is more money and you would think he wants to make more money.
