Ah. You did not seem so adamant in your original statement.

That's because you know what part-time 4wd is, but there's another snowback here that's having trouble with the terminology.

Sounds like your VSC kicked in and then the TRAC-control kicked in and I bet the ABS did a little something in there also?

Check out all of those acronyms in your owners manual and then you will understand that vehicles are not as fun as they used to be.

There is a difference between the first two.

"Full Time 4WD" was first adopted by the Detroit auto makers in the early 70s when they eliminated manual front locking hubs and switched in and out only at the transfer case.
It was "full time" in that the axle and drive shaft were live 24/7, even when not connected to the trans output shaft.
It sucked for wear on the front driveline, and Rancho made a kit that could be installed to unlock the front hubs on the GM (and probably other, my experience was with a '74 K5 Blazer).

As electronics moved in, disconnects were added to the front diff, so modern 4WD systems disconnect the front driveshaft at the diff and transfer case, but the front axles (CV shafts) are still live 24/7

This is the "classic" definition of "Full Time 4WD"

AWD is All Wheel Drive. That is where a center diff is used on the driveshafts.
I've never heard of an AWD vehicle referred to as "Full Time 4WD" or anything other than AWD.
