Your LCA's may be seized when lift is installed?

I ordered my lift kit from a toytec distributer at a dealership who is located in Canada today. The guy from the dealership who specializes in the toytec kits said "oh they didn't tell you? 25% of the time when the lift is installed on an older truck like yours, your LCA's seize up and then the lift costs you double what you paid."

I am so confused, all i've heard about is possibly needing new uca's upon lifting for alignment purposes. Anyone else had this happen to them? 25% seems like an awfully high risk rate to be replacing LCA's

    Yep , pretty common problem

You can just replace the LCA bushings , I'll find the thread , hang on

I will be getting a shop that specializes in installing lifts to do it, i'm gonna just assume they would know to replace the bushings and charge me for it.

I was just confused, this guy from the dealership tried making it sound like i might as well order new LCA's with my lift, lol i got worried.

The dealership will just replace the LCA's , they won't replace the bushings only

I'm not getting a dealership to do it, a local shop here is gonna do it. So basically i won't know if they're seized until they try to install the lift? That DIY is helpful but they would charge me an arm and a leg to do that, if they would even consider doing it.

I don't really wanna mess with my truck to find out because i'm not getting the lift for another 2 weeks or so

25% is probably low for that age truck if they salt the roads in the winter where you are...

If they are seized you probably won't be able to get a decent alignment , the alignment cam bolts that run through the LCA's are what seizes

My truck was in an accident mid-december and i just got it back as of monday. They replaced a bunch of stuff including an axle, ball joints, brand new front diff. They re-did the alignment because i wasn't happy and it came out near perfect when i picked it up monday evening. Or are you just talking about after the lift is installed?

I meant after the lift , but that's good news if they were able to align it because that would mean the cam bolts aren't seized . If everything is good you should still pull the bolts and grease them like in the link I posted

That's not necessarily true. The cams can be seized and the shop may still be able to get the truck in spec. Or, it's possible only some of them are seized and not all 4. The fronts more commonly seize than the rears so if just the fronts were seized, at stock height there is enough adjustment left to get a decent alignment. When lifted, you run out of adjustment and can't move the fronts to compensate.

OP, check them yourself and see if they're seized before taking it to get the lift on.

When my access cab was stock, I replaced the tires on it & had an alignment done. Looking at the before & after the toe was adjusted but the caster/camber were already within spec so they didn't touch it.

A few months later when I installed the lift I checked the LCA cam bolts while I was there = all four seized.

Back to the original alignment; I'm sure with the caster/camber already being within spec they didn't bother with it.. or they tried to get more caster out of it but the bolts were frozen & didn't tell me.

Either way I would get under there and see what your working with or attempt to free the bolts. If you can't free them then you can cut the bolts, press out the bushings and install new ones. I just did this on my double cab using MOOG bushings and all new Toyota hardware.
