Tire manufacture has a listed recommendation for PSI because they don't want the consumers to bump up the PSI and have to purchase tires less often. Most manufacture recommends in the low 30s for PSI. I think that's very low psi to get max life out of your tires.

I had goodyear triple threads on my Acura RSX. Recommend pressure was in the low 30s. I ran 45psi all year round and I got over 60k out of those tires. I'm sure I would've gotten another 10k out of them if i didn't trade it in for the Tacoma. Plus proper alignment and regular tire rotation will also help out.

Right now on the Taco I'm running 42PSI on all fours.

i usually go with the PSI it says on the tire. i have aftermarket tire, i think they are Dunlop Rovers or something. but it says 44max psi, so i do 40psi all around.

it says 29 front 29 rear on the door. with the stock tires 265/65/r17.
i put on new tires 265/70/r17 and ran the same air pressure. might lower the psi down to 27 or 28 because the tires are a little bigger. usually the bigger the tire the less psi you use. remember our tacoma's are lighter than a full size.

    haha i like this theory!

OK so its sounding like 30-35 for AT/MT's when people are half offroading and half road riding. And 35-45 for people who generally onl drive on the road.

The door jamb only works for the OEM tires and even then it's not always the best setting for those. But the OP doesn't have OEM tires- so it's not worth mentioning what the door plate says.

I think if you search around a bit you'll find threads about the chalk line test. What other people are running doesn't matter- It's what your truck needs to wear the tires properly.

The chalk line test lets you work to set your tires at the correct PSI for your truck. Summary is- Draw a line of chalk across the width of the tread and drive about 100 yds. Look at the line and see where it's rubbed off and where it hasn't. If the middle is gone and the outsides still have chalk- Too much pressure. If the outsides are gone and the middle remains- Too little (if I remember correctly). If the lines wears evenly- Then the rubber on your tire will wear evenly. Look for those other threads before you take my word for it tho.

Once you have that number you can adjust a few PSI down for softer ride or a few PSI up to improve gas mileage (to a degree)

I am running 31-32 on all four. They are still the OEM dunlops. I am pretty sure they are 245/75/16. Not enuff miles to determine wear yet. But gas mileage is excellent.
