OME Dakars 3rd leaf removal

Just wondering if any members out there have pulled the 3rd leaf out of your OMEs. If so, can you share your hub to fender measurements and thoughts/opinions about ride quality with the 3rd leaf removed.

I put my lift in about 1,000 miles ago and am getting a little more lift out back than I'd like. I was hoping it would "settle in" but I'm thinking at this point, it has settled as much as it is going to.

I would take out the 2nd overload spring (with good bump-stops) before I take out a loaded spring. removing a load leaf will put more 'stress' on the rest of the leafs in the pack and less load capacity... up to you...

 

The OME / ARB literature says removing the 3rd is fine although it does reduce right height and capacity as you stated

 

Ok, so here's a potentially stupid question...how do I tell which leaf is a loaded leaf and which is an overload leaf?

I will most likely just leave it "as is" because the rake from back to front isn't horrible and I'd rather have rake from back to front than rake from front to back. (is this what is known as "bro-lean?" )

 

You can't mistake them , Dakars have 2 overload leafs at the bottom of the pack , they are noticeably thicker and shorter than all the rest

 

Ah, thanks much. You are correct, they are certainly unmistakeable. My Tacoma is the first vehicle I've ever owned with leaf springs....new territory for me and I'm a total noob. (obviously)
