tranny change question

    im going to be changing my tranny fluid in 2011 4cyl automatic, i was doing a bit of reading and saw a few threads that the tranny pan is sealed.. not sure what that means. is it serviceable? i want to drop the pan and clean the magnet or screen in there. any help would be appreciated. thanks, worst comes to worst i can just to the drain/fill, thanks again

    Yours isn't "sealed." That's referring to the V6 auto that has no dipstick. It can only be filled from under the truck so clueless techs at lube shops won't drop Merc/Dex into it.

    Maybe he is talking about how the transmission pan is held to the transmission casing .
    Some are bonded with RTV sealant that has to be scraped off when you service the trans , some have a re-usable pan gasket and some will need a new pan gasket - usually black felpar .
    Best bet is to grab a pan gasket and filter for your application .This way you are covered .
